Oh MrsW I do feel for your son. It took No1 son four tries - failing each time on something very minor - and it's so expensive to re-test.

I swear they fail them on purpose sometimes, just to generate revenue. We were even told that they have only a certain quota of passes they can do each month so if your date comes after that limit, then you're screwed. I don't know if that's true or not, but it would explain a lot round here.

thanks folks, son's gutted and a bit p****d off as he said he couldn't see kerb properly! Still i'm sure he'll be ok next time, gonna book retest when I get home tonight, i'm paying this time as he's paid for everything else.
Mr W has gone today, bit of a cheek they're paying him approx.... £2.00 less an hour for the same work that he'd be doing if he gets the job! Anyway fingers crossed for tomorrow, lets hope he does well today to prove he's the right person for the job

Best of luck to your husband and commiserations to your son, I'm sure he'll do better next time.

Incidentally, it takes 16 minor (not dangerous) faults, or 1 major (potentially dangerous) fault to fail, but the distinction between minor and major is entirely at the discretion of the examiner and depends on the circumstances. For example, failing to engage your handbrake when stopped at traffic lights would be a minor fault, but if a car ran into the back of you and, as a result of not using your handbrake you then bumped the car in front, it would escalate to a major.

I passed the LGV cat C test (used to be called HGV class II) with 7 minor faults and the guy I was training with passed with 9. I did, however, fail my first attempt with a major fault...oops!
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Driving test: I passed the third time and one of my daughters passed the fourth time (to be fair one of those tries was within a week of having her second child). The rest of our household has been lucky - passes on the first or second time. It's nerve wracking and, to be honest, anything you do with someone looking on is twice as difficult. Also, 'minors' - which he failed on, might be something that could be easily corrected or avoided when there's no examiner in the car. Glad to hear he's applying again right away.

I hope today went really well for your OH - all good wishes for getting a good job.
