Thanks to you all for your advice! I've traded in my Tosce vouchers and bought a phone for about £10 on top. Its a make nobody has mentioned 
but it does what I need and more and its PAYG. Has a Qwerty touchscreen that is sooo much easier to use. Each day I learn how to do something else with it - so far, I can go online using the house wi-fi, pick up emails and messages, find where I live on a map (D'oh) and I've taken one pathetic photo. Maybe that will be today's lesson.
