Seconding the above ^. Our local news just had a piece about a bloke who set up a dodgy 'distance learning college' and pocketed millions that they can't seem to get back off him. None of the people who did his 'courses' have any kind of valid qualification from it

Have you checked with Guildford FE college Fi? Sometimes they do evening classes instead of/as well as day time classes? It says on the RHS 'providers' doc that they are one of the official centres... http://www.rhs.org.uk/Courses/Qualif...ed-Centre-List

I just looked at my local provider: the level 2 course would cost me over £700. Wowser.

That would be down to the gov't cutting the funding for FE colleges as well as HE providers. Education is not subsidised for anyone beyond the age of 19 now

            Ok. Here's my input:

I did the RHS L2 Certificate in. It was with a distance learning company called Learning Curve. I had a good tutor.

            So, I recommend them.

But, my main point is just how great a stepping stone it is. A year after finishing it, I started a degree in Horticulture. It has helped me with the subject SOOOOO much. It has been wonderful for me.

It is a GCSE level course, but be aware that - in my opinion - it was quite a lot harder than this suggests.

Sarz when I spoke to Merrist Wood in Guildford they said they didnt do evening courses

Really want to do it but with youngest taking over the house with a broken leg I despair at having the time at the moment. It WILL happen though

This is why I stopped doing photography. Crazy money. I was doing it for the fun but it stopped being quite so funny 2 years ago.

And do look at this thread http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ses_55841.html, as Zazen has some very valid points to make which could save grief in the long run.

Yeah - I have worked at a high level in training in previous jobs and unfortunately - although I may have seemed a little high handed in that thread - know that there are people out there that do rip people off. I still assist people [as a sideline - for free] in getting their money back from these sorts of scammers.

I dont think you came across high handed at all. I used to provide IT training at a basic level. Was always clear that it was training ONLY and not an accredited course in any way. Lots of scammers out there. When I do finally sort this out it will be an RHS approved course.

That's why I never did take English for my degree (I was warned that it would kill my love of books) nor gardening: I only "teach" primary level horticulture, but most weeks I do wonder why I bother ...
