I had a look at the advice about having a pond and it reminded me of when at our last house where we had a pond. Filled in after....returning back from on holiday when he was young and fit and mowed the lawn, well the long grass as he was full of energy after the hols. It was a Flymo. It was dusk when he had finished, very pleased with himself and came in splattered with blood. Poor, poor, poor frogs. Up til then I didn't realise they had red blood. There were probably a few slugs in there as well.
A weed is a plant that has mastered every survival skill except for learning how to grow in rows

I always figured the only slug and snail safe ones were weeds!

One thing I did notice the other day after the rain in the evening is that all the slugs (forty or so) were festooned over my three thyme plants like slimey Xmas baubles and that the snails were attempting to
likewise decorate the chives. Had a field day!

Thanks for all the tips. Will try and take pic of the slug fest on my bird table! hundreds of them
        Have given up with hostas.
Have small pond loads of frogs and hedgehogs roam the garden at night. I feed the hogs, maybe I should stop so they can eat the slugs and snails! However the foxes have found the hog food.

It seems to go like this for me......
Slugs and snails eating my plants
        foxes eating the hedgehog food
blackbirds digging up my pot plants
        cats eating the hog food
        snails eating the bird seed
        everything to wet
        now - everything to dry
        to cold
        to hot
        weeds growing like mad
        plants refusing to grow!

hey I love gardening dont you?

Has anybody else found alpine strawberries to be fairly slug resistant?? They are the only thing in one of my borders that the slugs have left alone!
Ive become a big fan of ferns and sedum lately...I have a very shady corner in my garden and a gravel bed in full sun and both these plants fit the bill and come in so many different shades and shapes. Ive now taken to calling my damp, shady little wildlife corner The Fernery!!LOL
