Agreed. People under estimate the time and patience needed. My MIL used to make cakes like that and if you worked out her hourly rate, it was pennies. She loved making them and that was what mattered

Its beautiful! I love making cakes but simply smoother them with the gooiest icing I can find - I just don't have the patience or dexterity to do what you have done.

Fantastic, and I hope much appreciated by the person you did it for.

                thanks peeps,
RT...to get the beige-y colour is very trying, play about with your baisic colours, mine was adapted starting of with faint ivory, tiny bit of black, whisper at blue, red and yellow, and a bit of ribbon to match up,it does go a bit darker when dry,you also invent some horrid colours along the way lol,
it was a lot of hard work, but satisfying, definately NOT for a day job lol,the bride and groom have seen it,they over the moon, said it was better than they imagined,
VC...thanks for being by my side, all i have to do now,is sorse a couple of strong card boxes,to transport in,the cake boxes are just toooo flimsy, and decoration extremly delicate, have already called on the spare butterflies lol, have to find time and do more,
