Imagine that you are going to play this game with a friend.
Twenty coins are spread on a table. Taking it in turns, you and your friend can pick up one, two or three coins at each move. You can both decide which option you choose.
The object of the game is to be the person who picks up the last coin.
Knowing this, should you go first or should you let your friend go first?

You should let your friend go first.

whatever number they choose, you should take enough coins to make up to 4, i.e. they take one, you take three.

After four goes each you will be left with four coins.

Whatever they take you can take the remainder and win.

Is that it?
