Gorgeous day here today so went for a run up Loch Lomond and to Crarae Gardens near Inverary - a woodland garden run by the National Trust. Just gorgeous.

Thanks MuckDiva, and for the pics. I think this has been a great thread to see where other grapes like to go.

Muckdiva, that Greenway looks great, I bet those hedges are teeming with wildlife? Always good t have a place kids can cycle safely, we're a bit short of that round here.

Alice, what a beautiful garden. I love Loch Lomond, used to go to a summer camp on it's shores every year as a teenager.. Aaaah *sighs* good memories...

This is a picture from Fountains Abbey (National Trust) near Harrogate. Not brilliant pic, as had dog pulling me @ the time.... It's an old Cistercian Abbey, really peaceful even when full of people, and if you walk a mile or so, you come to some stunning water-gardens. Those pics didn't come out very well (the Padster pulling again). Next time maybe! The kids love it there, and you can take dogs (on lead).

Oh, what a romantic looking place. I can well believe that peace decends upon anyone visiting. It reminds me a bit of Tintern Abbey in Wales which I also love.

This is one of my favourite local places.

It is a wood between Holkham and Wells next the Sea, about 8 miles from where I live. You walk through the wood and come out onto the beach....fabulous! My dog loves it too!

On the interactive map I live between Derrykeighan and Ballycastle. I grew up just outside Bushmills and my wife is from Ballycastle. If you are on dialup sorry it will take ages . Will take more pics soon - promise.

Yes Nick, that is me in the first pic. I just put it in to show the size of the rhoddies. Quite spectacular. If you're back in the area I recommend a visit to Crarae gardens in May. Next week I hope to visit the Hunter gardens at Dunoon. Another woodland garden but with more of a perennial component.
For a spectacular sub tropical garden in Scotland you have to see the Logan Gardens in Galloway. I'll be there a little later in the year.

Thanks Beefy - many years since we were in Ballycastle and enjoyed the trip around Bushmills. (tried the whisky samples, but then had to go for a long, long walk before we dared get back on the motorbikes!). Great part of Northern Ireland, we just love it! But Ballycastle and Limavardy were our favourite places.

I've been to Logan Gardens Alice - really inspiring. We bought a hardy fuschia there - Logan Woods it was called - which starred in our old garden. I tried to take some cuttings before we moved here 7 years ago but they failed.
