I started using eBay when I was too ill to go trawling round the shops and did a lot of reading while I was recuperating - books and postage were cheaper then. Over the years I have saved a lot in time and money and petrol and I never seem to run out of things to bid on. My OH thinks his best buy is his motorbike as he wanted a particular model/make. Spent quite a while emailing and chatting to the seller before he bid and is happy with it but he could probably tell you every nut and bolt (if they have such things) so he knew what he was buying. Mine was a custom made oak table for our kitchen, a bargain and unique which I was able to view before bidding as it was local to me. There are more traders nowadays and it is good to do your homework as things are cheaper elsewhere especially factoring in the high cost of postage. Everyone's advice here is spot on.

ebay has it's uses, but i still hate it .... it's better now that i know what i'm doing on it .... it's far too easy for people who don't really know what they're doing to get ripped off ....

that could be another thing i'll need to learn .... if i ever want or need to use ebay again ....

^ So, you hated it because you didn't know how to use it. Well, you're on your way to learning now: you've had lots of good advice & help, and you won your item.

If you choose not to use it again, that's your choice. It leaves more items for the rest of us

I am afraid I am a last-ten-seconds gazumper, but I either win it or it went for more than I wanted to pay (shrug)

I don't use ebay all the time, but am quite happy with my recent spree: needed a new wardrobe of maternity clothes and have just bought four pairs of jeans, two dresses, a denim skirt, three dressy tops and ten other tops for £165 including postage. mostly brand name, and almost all in great condition. I couldn't have bought that much for that price at Primark (assuming primark do maternity). They are great for baby/toddler clothes as well because they hardly wear them before they've grown out of them. unless you have a thing about second hand clothes... which as a vintage diva, I certainly don't...

Actually, you'll lose every time. If two people bid the same amount then the earlier bid wins. If you bid more, that would have won anyway.
So the point of BS is to hide the fact you are interesting in bidding until the dying seconds and it's only necessary if you won't be near a computer to hit the bid button at the right moment.
