  • Help with travel plans, please

As many of you know, my daughter and her family live in Cornwall and her elderly grandparents live near Warrington. They would love to drive down and visit, but my ex-MIL thinks doing it in one go is too much for them both, but my ex FIL wants to go for it. I'm trying to persuade him that 2 days is the way to go and the only way I'm going to succeed is if I can find them somewhere really lovely to spend the night half way - with something that somewhat infirm people can do too. They can allow themselves a nice place. Any ideas?

Found this place on Twitter recently - not sure if they do one night stays though...

Ticks the box for lovely places. Not sure about the rest.

Thanks Heywayne, they look lovely but I think they'll need a nice hotel where they can be spoiled for the night.

Depending what part of Cornwall they are going, it takes just over 5 hours, longer if going further into Cornwall. Look around Gloucester, or find the half way point and see what is around the area.

I frequently stay in 'Hand Picked Hotels', I'm not sure whether they have any on your route, but I've always found them to be a very enjoyable night, and they do a reasonable priced dinner bed and breakfast for about £130-£150.

This might sound high to some, but its good to note that they charge for a room not per person, so if you get a family room for 4 you don't pay for the kids evening meals either. £150 dinner bed and breakfast (3 courses with champagne to start for 4, is a good deal to me).

These are my personal experiences and in no way constitute advertising, I'm not in that business.

It is a long drive, we've done it loads of time but have found the worst bits to be M6 round Brum and then actually down in Cornwall itself. Never needed to stop off but am sure there must be loads of hotels not far off the beaten track.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

It's a long slog. They're just outside of Porthleven.

Perhaps Bath or somewhere in the Cotswolds?

Bath is a bit far out of the way. It should take about 3 hrs to get to bristol or less from there, and once you're in bristol, it's 1/2 hr to Taunton. Somewhere there?

It's a trip I do a couple of time a year from Warrington to Penzance - takes about 5 hours . The worse bit for me are Birmingham just before the M5 ( road works ), the rest of it is just boring especially when your huysband goes to sleep by Crewe and wakes up in Exeter!
