Encouraging words needed.

Hi all, haven't been posting for a little while as, apart from the comp crashing, things have been and still are very stressful. Following a screening mammogram had to traipse over to the L&D for further xrays, ultrasound and needle test. There's 'an area' they want to look at more but after waitiing 10 days for results cos of the hols have now got to go back for another biopsy as they didnt get enough to analyse. Have to wait until next week to go and then a week for results but which time we will be in lovely Devon trying to enjoy ourselves.
Anyway apart from offloading was wondering if anyone has been through this and has any encouraging words about how to cope with it all. Feels like a black cloud hanging over us.

Without being flippant I'll give you the aussie version - She'll be right mate.

There are many things that can show as areas of possible concern. It's almost impossible to relax and enjoy yourself until you've heard that it's all ok and they don't want to see you again. I've had a small area that they were worried about, then after u/s it's all ok see you next year.
I guess you just have to try and enjoy what's happening for you atm, as you don't know what the test will show. The treatments nowadays are very much improved so there's lots that can be done even if it's not such good news at this level. Hugs!

Dear Lettuce, take courage. I found a lump in August 2010 . It was biopsied and found to be cancer. I was operated end September 2010 , and they found that it had spread to the lymphnodes so I had to go down the chemo / rays road. I am now fighting fit and raring to go!
Not every lump is cancerous, nor does everyone need chemo.
Just bear in mind - NEVER get your knickers in a twist until you KNOW that you have a good reason to. I know that's easier said than done, but you have to try and be zen.
E-mail me if you'd like more help and info. I don't want to inflict everyone here with the intimate details!

I've been down that road too, lettuce, twice. Once for a lump I'd found that needed a biopsy and U/S to diagnose. So long ago I can't even remember what it was but it was nothing to worry about.
Then a recall after a screening mammogram that also had detected some odd features. Again, it was nothing alarming.
Its the delay in between the reviews that are the worst things because your mind works overtime. I try to push it out of my mind until the event because worrying about anything isn't going to fix it! Easier said than done I know.
Ultimately, I take comfort in the fact that my Mum had breast cancer when she was 48, she is now 92

Last year I had a minor gynae op. They removed three separate cysts and sent them off for biopsy. Two weeks they said. After three I phoned the doctors to ask if they'd had the results, no they hadn't. The receptionist was lovely, I explained how worried I was and she said she'd phone the consultant's secretary to see if the results had been sent through. No, they hadn't.....they were sitting on the consultant's desk and she had gone on holiday for three weeks - she left yesterday. I was gutted, another three weeks of torture.

Four weeks later I got called in to see the consultant; could I come in the next afternoon. Well, you think the worst, don't you and I was already a wreck.

Anyway, it was nothing to worry about, everything was clear!!! I did complain to the consultant and she said 'I knew the results were fine, so I was able to go away and enjoy my holiday' to which, I replied, ' I thought it was ME who needed to know! This has hung over my family and I for 7 weeks now' She did have the grace to be embarrassed.

Lettuce, I know the waiting is horrible, but I'm sure you'll be fine. At least they are looking carefully and you are being tested quickly compared to some. YOU WILL BE FINE! Think positive!

sending you my best wishes, I found a lump 12 months ago, turned out it was just a big cyst, totally with you nerve wracking waiting for results and not the most comfortable procedures to endure.

You lovely lovely people, you are just what I needed. Thanks for all encouraging words and for sharing experiences. Positive thoughts back to you vvg. I hope everything goes well. The trouble is I used to work in abreast clinic and know what's coming! I developed shingles with the stress of all this but I do feel more encouraged and will try to relax a bit !
