I'm livid! I had a phone call earlier asking for a verbal reference for one of my staff who is apparently meant to be starting a new job in January. It wouldn't be an issue normally, but this is the first I've heard of it. This person has an 8 week notice clause in their contract and hasn't handed in their resignation!
I'd never advise someone to resign until they had an unconditional offer. It's a really bad idea.
The new company might not even have told them that they are expecting them to start then.
Get the reference done, and they can give notice this week; and they could start at the end of the month.
I'd like to think you're right, but I've got a bad feeling about this. The new place seemed to be under the impression that this person will be starting 2nd week in January...
Burn them - that's what I do
My rant - stoopid idiots who leave tissues in pockets of dirty clothes that leave wet shreds of paper over everything that was in the washing machine.
If I ever catch that fool, I'll............
Big bonfire?
My rant - why is VC ranting? Most unusual...buy Tempo tissues as they don't shred when wet. Who is that person whose clothes you wash?
Its the stupid, stupid idiot that I live with, who shares my bed, that I cook for, wash up after, clear up their mess and generally act at their dogsbody. Drives me mad sometimes

It really isn't your problem, that's for them to negotiate with you and with the new company.
Perhaps the interview was 2 months ago and the company are not exactly swift on their feet at getting these things sorted.
Shhhh!!!!!!!!!!!te. Just got Mr.G's business bank statement in. Was hoping to get some money out of that, as he keeps telling me how much he's taken. Shame he's spent just as much. Pillock.
Happy Anniversary, Hon, beans on toast OK for dinner?
Bummocks - no bread!
Oh well, we can live on the Christmad sausage rolls I made yesterday, for a while...

You're right. I'm calming down a bit now and thinking a little more clearly - I was just furious that the first I heard of it was via the request for a verbal reference with the implication that the person would be starting there before completing their notice period.
I flipped out a bit...better here than to the staff member in question though. Sigh!
