Wow I thought it was just me! I was looking at a seed place which specialises in older style seeds. They come in 1000 for most. But there is a button for 'bulk seeds' which I didn't click on as I had visions of a large truck filled with seed and I definately will have trouble dealing with 1000.

I'm a bit afraid we'll end up 'growing for Australia' next season with all the enthusiasm and seeds that will be around. Not sure the enthusiasm of the teen will survive the weed season tho.

What does everyone do to keep their seed good from year to year? Don't say keep them in an area with an even temperature - from -10C to +45C is the range here.

Think giant radish, for the white turnips, and think small swede for the yellow turnips!
Someone will be along soon to tell me that I've got it all wrong and turnips are the most wonderful taste in the world, but meanwhile, join the Turnip and Swede Dislikers' Club!! Anyone else want to join??

I'm not much for turnips or swede. I do like one once in a blue moon mashed with spuds but i have 3 or 4 pkts of differnt varieties. A big sucker for seed reductions, that's me!

Oh no! Not the dreaded "Turnip v Swede" argument again, I'm keeping out of that one. Strange how we buy seeds of veg we don't like. I grow stuff I don't like, but it's for other people, particularly my daughter. As for the amount of seed, I sometimes shop at places like MoreVeg, who do nice little packets with 10 or 12 seeds in.

I did look into licensing some seed from suppliers to sell on in smaller quantities. There was numerous hurdles to go over, and in the end with their ethics, greed and non-cooperation I thought bugger it.

Then, as is sods law and every idea I have, numerous companies spring up offering smaller quantities and seem to be doing ok.

I've noticed though, when you buy heritage varieties you do get less seed, which for me works well with only having 3 beds at home, and half a plot.

I just keep them, and then use them next year....I buy much more than I need anyway, or swap , so eventually I will be seed-bound and have to stiop and use what I have...

The thing is when you buy budget seeds, I mean 10p and less from sell off areas invariably the seeds only have 1 year growing in them. I do find that a lot of the seeds I have don't germinate, out of 24 runners this year I had 4. That is not good statistics.

I'm sort of indifferent about eating swede, it's cooking 'em I hate. Cooking a petrified tree stump would be easier. I always hated getting them in my veg box (all.winter.long!) so I'm not gonna grow 'em!
                          March is the new winter.

I can't bring myself to spending £2 on a packet of seeds, when I can get them at the end of the year for 10p, nope........I just can't.

Personally I love swede specially when its mashed with either potato or carrot, black pepper and butter.
