Everyone should have a wood! I don't have holidays any more. Sorry Pompeylottie, I don't want to hijack your thread
I've never been to the Channel islands but some of the smaller ones, in particular, really appeal to me. Hope you find something

Jersey's great, been there a couple of times. Plenty to see and do there, and some nice beaches if you want to sit on your bum for a day or two too. Flew from Southampton first time, much easier than an 8 hour ferry IMHO. Would go back to Jersey anytime. Experienced something there I've never come across before - total silence. Place called Greve de Lecq on the beach. Quite a busy place during the day, a few shops nice beach, hotel, pub. We'd gone through on the bus, and liked the look of the pub, so got the bus back out there the next evening to go for a pub meal. Pub wasn't busy and afterwards we strolled down to the beach and sat there for a while - not a soul about and the water was dead calm and didn't make a sound. Utterly brilliant watching the sky change colour and darken.

Going to Guernsey & Sark for our holiday this year.....8 working days and counting!!

Been to Sark for a day trip when we went to Jersey last time, got 5 nights there this time, very few vehicles on Sark, it's very quiet, everyone's friendly. 3 nights at each end in Guernsey. Never been there before - anyone got any suggestions?

Would always recommend the Channel Islands - we goy any Channel Islanders on here?

Guernsey is nice & the natives are friendly

Castle Cornet (be in time for the noon cannon)
Postal Museum (learn what Antony Trollope did when not writing novels (then find the first post office pillarbox hexagonal & purple unlike the normal blue ones)

          Are you golfing there ?

thanks for that BB, might have a look at those. Postal museum is the sort of thing most people might scoff at, but I bet is fascinating.

Not golfing as it's just me and Mrs Vince and she doesn't play. Bit of "us time".

Got tomorrow off to play though!

Awwww - Good luck with the Motorhome; being a keen Caravanner, I fully understand your disappointment.

However, where and whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll have a really fab time, just because it is different to what you'd planned. Incidentally, Pompeii is fab; went when I was a teenager, and really enjoyed it - even though it rained the whole time!
