I've been a forager for years and would be interested in a foraging/sticky board as I'm all for food for free. I keep a record of all the best places locally for stuff like sloes, elderflower/elderberries, wild plums and other fruit. Certain mushrooms I collect as well. I've found the best mushroom identification book is by Roger Phillips. There is a website too - check out Rogers Mushrooms | Mushroom Pictures & Mushroom Reference

I was interested in what Alys Fowler was collecting when she was going round and about foraging, and I was hoping to learn new things to collect, but sadly it didn't seem to get off the ground.

I'm a great fan of Roger Phillips' books. Have you seen his "Wild Food". Sumptuous photography of wild food being cooked on location, with recipes, and all in date order so thhat you know what time of year to look out for what!
I have Alys Fowler's book too but its a pale imitation. I don't rate it very highly but it is/was on sale cheaply at The Works ?£4.99.

Yes, I have seen the Wild Food book and I keep meaning to buy it and never get round to it! Will have a look in the library tomorrow for it perhaps. Thanks for the reminder.

Just make a note of when you want certain things then keep borrowing it from the library when they come around.

Why not swap the Ask Alys Fowler board with a foraging board, as that one hasn't been used for almost a year.

The Ask Alys Fowler board has always puzzled me. There are no questions and no answers, and only one message from the lady herself refers to "attempting this marathon answering session". So what happened to the Qs & As?

Where is that part of the ocean where all the plastic debris ends up and will never disperse because of the currents? Reminds me of something...........something threadlike.......

No they wash up on the beach and get turned into driftplast picture frames and artwork.

That's very strange. I can see all the posts on that board I wonder if Admin have flipped the wrong switch and hidden it all... I shall go and ask!

Its still over a year since it was last used Sarz, could we hijack it for foraging?

We've asked the question about the board, and Admin are discussing it. It's problematic due to the potential for bad advice and litigation, and so it may be a long discussion, and it may be an outright 'no', we'll just have to see.

Forgive me for asking but, how would it differ from advise on growing veg anyway?, which we all give in our limited capacity.

Could a disclosure at the start of the board/sticky state that all advise is taken at the risk of the individual. Wouldn't it be the same for any books on the subject how do they get around it?

Personally I wouldn't give any advise on mushrooms, as my knowledge is very limited, but I'd happily Identify Elderflower or crab apple or nettles!

I understand that there are people who use these boards that don't actually post, and advise can be given which is inaccurate, but this is true of all things surely.
