I spoke to Learner Support about this last week, and after they assured me of extra exam support, I took the plunge and signed up for the 19th Century Novel module. I feel like even if the exam does go a bit pear-shaped, I'll still have spent the year learning about something that interests me, and I can always do another Level 3 module to pull my degree classification up if I need to.
So, the set book list is loooong, but I've made a start already:
Austen, Jane Northanger Abbey
Bronte, C Jane Eyre
Chopin, Kate The Awakening
Collins, Wilkie The Woman in White
Conrad, Joseph Heart of Darkness
Dickens, Charles Dombey and Son
Eliot, George Middlemarch
Flaubert, Gustave Madame Bovary
Hardy, Thomas Far from the Madding Crowd
James, Henry The Portrait of a Lady
Regan, Stephen (ed) The Nineteenth-century Novel: A Critical Reader
Stoker, Bram Dracula
Zola, Emile Germinal
I've filled up my Amazon basket with the official editions (Oxford U.P.), but for now I'm reading them on Kindle as they were all free So I can wait til my grant comes through Love my Kindle!
Finished Dombey & Sons at the weekend, and now halfway through Middlemarch - thought I'd get the heftiest ones out of the way first, and then I'll treat myself with a re-read of Northanger Abbey
Thanks for all your advice and offers of help, I'm sure I'll be taking you up on it April/May next year
