Hi peeps,have had 1 of these for just over 4 years,now bear in mind am not a teckie,have only used it once to get to grapestock,i understand these things need an update,but no idea where to look,have gooled,but only come accross peeps asking the same thing,has anyone else,got one/had one,that can give any advice please,

Lottie, as far as I can find online Keomo went into liquidation in April 2008 so you wouldn't be able to find updates for the unit. I can't find any specific commercial link of their going through, but the Maplin links all point to this happening.

thanks MW,loathed to get rid and get a new one,son has used it a few times,you loose any directions,as the roads alter,plus the 1 time we used it,i had to give the info verbly to himself,the problem is hearing the voice and seeing the small screen lol,i guess i got too used to a map and magie glass lol,i just thought if any updates could be had,it would be great,thanks again,one day i will pop into maplins and ask,we only had it,as other son said how good for the money,£80 on offer,he long since gave up with his,maybe i should use it on places where i know am going,to get more familiar with the thing,DH won't have anything to do with all things teckie at all,even reading a map,thats my job lol,

My OH would much rather have a sat nav than have to navigate for me, as when she turns the page invariably she gets lost and I get grumpy.

It only ever happens when we are in the middle of a city centre and at a roundabout, I think all maps should have their page joins on long straight roads without any turn offs.

YES,because it if updates could be had,then it would improve the performace,and not be a performance when the road systems have changed,plus why buy another up to date one,if i can get an update,i only drive where i know,and that is not long distance,i do not have the confidence some others have,and not ashamed to admit it,

No sorry, what I meant was that if you didn't use it when you first got it 4 years ago (when presumably it was upto date) then would you actually use it now? Or have you moved house recently so in need of new directions? Sorry, just a bit confused but then again, that happens quite often

When I go long distance I navigate by the stars, it can be a bit tricky around lunchtime, but my sunglasses help. I generally follow the brightest one.

As you can imagine I'm never in a queue and there are few that follow me.

I love my Tom Tom and wouldn't leave home without it. I agree with Lottie, they can boost your confidence. When you're on your own in the car and can't read a map, it's great to have someone tell you where to go! The number of times I've got off the ferry at Plymouth in the dark and rain I'd have really panicked if I'd had to rely on myself!

join the club,thats my problem lol,since getting it/and the lotties,life has altered somewhat,for the better,son has used it several times,i have been a passenger and like the merits of it,there are parts where i live i won't go,for fear of getting lost,i have NO confidence at taking myself,but get on well with an uptodate road map,so long as i have studyed it before hand,only as a passenger,exactly what PN says is true,i do not want to feel traped in,i find google maps great,but even a print of has to be looked at,i will just have to stop being a whimp and get used to it lol,hence a need for updates,so i DON'T get lost and freak out,i need to broaden my horizons whilst i still have a licence lol,will also increase my independance,plus it's usually ME that has to navigate,so would be nice to have some preasure lifted,the odd times we need it,

Hi LottieD. I don't have any of those newfangled devices and I drive most places alone so have to navigate for myself. If I'm going somewhere new I look at Google Directions then write down the essential bits on a piece of card, in very big print, using a sort of shorthand that makes sense only to me!
So it might be
J32, 1st x(Junction 32, 1st exit)
0 2nd x (Roundabout 2nd exit)
TL 3rd Rd (Turn left 3rd road on left)
etc...
Then I keep the card on the dashboard when I'm in the area and its easy to read as you're driving.
Keep the map on the passenger seat, with the Google directions and if you're unsure where you are, pull over and have a look at them. Take it stage by stage, its all a bit of fun really.
When I do get lost, its an adventure! I never worry about it unless I have arranged to meet someone at a specific time. I've been to places I wouldn't normally visit and met some interesting strangers along the way by getting lost.

Thanks VC,but you got MY share of confidence as well as your own,i am a bit of a whimpy chichen,think it goes back to early life and always being put down buy one who supposed to protect you,i enjoy life now in later years,i have a lot of catching up to do

Its not that I have confidence, more an attitude of "what's the worst that can happen?" In this case, the worst that could happen would be I'm lost - being lost isn't life threatening, so its not a problem. Sounds a bit stupid written down but most times it works for me.
Try going somewhere new, that you would really like to visit, but is quite close to you. Perhaps a garden centre. Look at the map, and Google, write down the key instructions and drive off. When you get to the Garden Centre (or wherever) park up, get out, have a wander around, reverse the instructions and go back home. Give yourself a big pat on the back!! The more you do it, the easier it becomes and the more confident you'll feel.

Next time, go to a new store and drive yourself there. You can do it, I know you can
