The remark was tongue-in-cheek, but if you ask do I believe then I would have to say I am doubtful for two reasons. (a) The world weather pattern has changed constantly over the millennia. (b) The same meteorologists who are now predicting death by fire were only four decades ago telling us to prepare for a mini ice age. If they could make their minds up the us lesser mortals might have some faith in their predictions.

Perhaps this IS the mini ice age - the Water Phase
I'm very unhappy about the weather we've had. It makes me very cross. Especially as this is my season as an allotmenteer. Been trials and tribulations since January! At the moment, it feels as though I was more successful growing things in pots at home.
Whilst I'm a novice, I can't imagine how seasoned growers must feel. I certainly feel very demoralised. This time last year, claude the courgette bored us with four courgettes a week, Gladys was making for fun and games. Kevin the moody Aubergine had his histrionics.
I think I will starting from scratch again on the plot. When all the various plants have well and truly carved it, and I have to to green manure; I'm going to attack the weeds with something. Something either chemical or physical. I really don't like the carpet of weeds I have.
I thought global warming WAS extreme weather patterns and the overall temp as a globe rising, not just in one country?
Even better than that. The prediction from climate scientists more than 10 years ago was that a warming planet would cause more precipitation (heavy rain); and global temperature records from NASA show that 2010 was the warmest year on record (globally). So our little cold spell means nothing.
Im trying to look on the bright side...ok, so I might not get much to harvest this year but Im sure my newly planted fruit bushes, minarette fruit trees and rhubarb have been growing some decent roots!
Actually a bad year this season for fruit growers. Apples are set to rise in price because of it. Yields are reportedly much lower this year due to the cold wet Spring. I feel rather sorry for commercial growers.

Erm feel sorry for the people who have to buy food (everyone on the planet! ) - it'll all go up.
I think all fruit and veg will rise in price this year. If we're having problems on a domestic scale, the commercial growers are either suffering the same way or taking avoidance measures with more polytunnels, heating or pesticides and sprays - or they'll be importing. Whatever is happening, you can bet it will cost more.
I firmly believe in climate change its happened hundreds of times before. But I have my doubts over man made global warming.
The timing of the change we see happening today fits in very well with the known climate change cycle of our planet in fact its near perfect to within 500 years which over a cycle of 11,500 years ain't far out.
If it is the natural cycle there is not a lot we can do about it and human kind is in danger, after all the last episode killed off the neanderthals.
