  • Companion planting, not the other one.

Ok, so I was watching a gardeners world at hampton court, and there was a section on companion planting, and it occurred to me that its something that we discuss quite a bit, but have we got anywhere that this info is kept?

I do a little, but nowhere near as much as I'd like to, I know wildlife garden covers some of this area, but could we have an area dedicated to companion knowledge. Maybe even a GYO test section.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I just noticed Ask Alys has gone does that mean we are getting a foraging board?, maybe we could combine the two, foraging and companion planting?

      Poor Alys, RIP.
There are a lot of threads about Companion Planting, as you say Mikey, and bringing them together would make sense. I'm not sure how well it fits with foraging though

I guess there is one coming. It seems to be talked about more in the magazine so its own section would surely make sense...?

No, there isn't currently. The Admin team have been asked and are looking at it but just because the Alys board has gone doesn't mean that another one is coming.

Yes I read the article on permaculture, maybe it could on a bigger subject group, with sticky's on specific topics. I've often contemplated going no dig, but there's a mental barrier there for me, which I've yet to overcome.

I always find it hard to mix companion planting with crop rotations

Cheers VC, in the past I have gone to great lengths to work out my crop rotation, based on what follows what, which plants benefit from others, which one's you should keep apart, and I think I've forgotten it all, and lost my notes.

I know I want to do it more, but when I'm picking up my budget 10p seeds I never have that list to hand and always end up with far too much lettuce.

Don't get me started on the snugs, they're taking over my every waking moment and in my dreams too, trying to formulate cunning plans to get rid of them. How sad is that? Useful link there VC, ta.

I already grow sacrifice plants for the slugs, including marigolds and lettuce around my runner beans.
