  • baby scan next week!

Amazing how fast 20 weeks can fly by...

I have scan of the slug next week, or ET as we are now calling it (due to it looking like ET on the dating scan). Poor thing is going to grow up with issues LOL

But the burning question is: Find out what flavour it is or not?!?

I have 2 boys already and do not have anything for the new baby except a few white things saved from them as babies.

I have said all along I am not going to find out the sex, but mr janeyo wants to as does half the flipping family! Even my mother says I am 'odd' for not wanting to know!

    What would you do?............

We did on our 2nd, but told everyone we didn't - to avoid the usual cr@p from them - oh and getting everything pink, when we wanted neutral colours (for future offsprings!).

I've two daughters at the moment, if we have another I'm not sure I'd want to know. I REAAAAAAAAAAALLY want a son, if I found out it was another girl I think I'd sulk.. so probably would just wait until d-day.

Never had the option in my day, and I think maybe it was better that way. As long as they were healthy I really wasn't bothered what sex they were. Turned out I had three girls and one boy and I love them all dearly.

Janeyo its hard having the pressure put on you to find out babies sex but once you know you can't un-know, so I'd be tempted to go with not knowing.

If it's a girl, will you want to dress her in lots of pink frillies? Or are you happy with unisex/neutral stuff? If the former I think I'd want to know, then I wouldn't have to spend a fortune just after the birth!

I knew with all apart from my first. I preferred knowing. It made preparation much easier and also meant that at least there was only half the angst of choosing names!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

OK but he's a bit big for posting. Taller than me now, which comes in handy for lots of things

We have a large extended fmaily so no probs about getting lots of bits and pieces for baby after it's here. I am not going to buy anything else until I know or it arrives.
If it's pink it wil defo be in PINK after 2 boys - no neutrals in sight, and if it's a boy I may well dress it in pink anyway! HA!
That wil keep the neighbours guessing.
I am tempted to get the sonographer to put what it is in an envelope for me in case I change my mind then hide it somewhere. I am good at not opening things if I am not meant to.

I did not find out what our first was, and with the secind was convinced he was a girl, so we found out (and please don't say horrible things to me as there is nothing you can say that will make me feel any less horrid about the thoughts I had then), and it was very hard for me to get my head round the fatc that it was another boy and it kind of made the last few months of being pregnnnt harder.

If I don't know, then when it is born there is such a huge flurry of emotions that I don't think it will matter either way - but mr janeyo thinks I should know then I can 'prepare myself' as he knows what I was like last time.....

This baby was not planned. I was half way through an all booked for IVF cycle abroad to get a little girl when we had to stop because I was already pregnant with this one.... makes this whole thing so much more ironic! Like someone up there is laughing at me!

If you want to make negative comments about this ^^ then please don't make them to me, as I have heard them all.

I knew with both of mine and it did not in any way detract from the joy of birth. The euphoria was there, obviously I can't comment on the surprise aspect as I have never had it, but then I do not like surprise presents of any shape or form. I have one of each, so am very lucky, I know, but it was nice to be able to get organised beforehand, ie. nursery ready and I spent the rest of my nine months buying gender appropriate stuff in the sales. A friend who had three surprise boys, had a scan on her fourth because she wanted the longed for girl, which she got. It made her whole world.

I'm torn as well Janeyo about whether to find out or not. I'd love to know and thought I would be far too impatient not to find out, but suddenly there seems to be some kind of inner discipline that is telling me to wait, no idea why as I am normally useless with surprises and usually HAVE to know. OH said he didn't want to find out at first, but is now surprising me by being the one that really wants to know. I don't know what we'll do - we are a very indecisive couple!

I'm a bit behind you though so have more waiting time. I think the idea of asking them to put it in an envelope is a good one, and maybe ask your OH to hide it for you?? Good luck for your scan.

Can they always tell the sex from the scan??

Many years ago I recall being told that if the babies willie was tucked away you could be mistaken for presuming it was a girl and that only a positive boy sighting was a guarantee of the sex.
If that's still the case how would you feel if you were told they thought it was a girl, only to find on arrival 'she' was actually a boy?

We wanted a surprise with our first ( girl) but really wanted to know for our 2nd ( boy)

In your situation, I'd want to know so I could rush out and buy some bargains in the Sales!!!!!
