As an outsider ( as much as an Irish person can be considered that in Britain!), I have to say the Opening Ceremony was overall very very impressive... well done...!!!
One of those things that some people may grumble about the costs of etc, but once you are hosting them, might as well do it really well and put on a good show!!
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

And I think 27m out of 9bn is barely a drop in the ocean. Obscene amounts of money but a few major thoughts about the olympic opening ceremony:
      - people are reminded that the world is bigger than from here to Benidorm.
      - highlights things like 'first time women competing' from some countries
      - reminder that we have a rich history and modern things worth celebrating.

However I am tired from staying up so late!

I would have watched it for about an hour - maybe when the highlights are available I will.

another watcher, missed the very beginning though, was very impresive viewing, what a headache it must have been to plan out,so congratulations to those concerned with chorioghrahpy, costume, scenery, pyroteknics ext,it just flowed one thing into another, everyone wondered what the significance of the copper kettles were, plus they looked to be some diffent shapes amongst them, maybe to fit in with each other as they rose up into the couldron, welldone all, pitty to the peeps left to clear up the mess ready for sport action,

Just seen the video of the queen "arriving" at the ceremony.
            That was good.

As you all know by now, I can't stand sport, but I watched the opening ceremony and I thought it was great. I will not be watching any of the events

I didn't watch the opening ceremony, they're not my kettle of fish.

I will be watching some of the events, and deffo want to watch some of the men's tennis - when I've worked out who'll be playing who and when and on what channel

Well, I enjoyed the ceremony - I feel it put across the idea of Britain as a multicultural society-(I have lived abroad several years in the past- and trust me, we are considerably more opened minded and less racist than certain other 'developed' countries!!!) with a genuinely interesting and exciting history. The music was fabulous. How many people are watching around the world/ Will it generate more tourists in the future? Probably. I intend to watch a variety of sports with my daughter - she was on a steep learning curve looking up all those countries last night! It was a delight to see so many beautiful people.

                    • I thought they did a good job on the ceremony......the only thing that got my goat was that Britain seems to be renamed London................

                      • Well, our big telly has decided to go mute, and rather than watch the opening ceremony with a fantastic picture and no sound, I chose to watch it on catch-up via iPlayer. I haven't watched it all, yet, but have to say I was very very impressed with the whole event. I gave up and went to bed part way through the team introductions, but mainly because it was after midnight, and I was falling asleep, but I will watch the rest. The whole concept was inspired - the stories, design, layout, choreography, music, film inserts, costumes, everything, I thought, was just superb. I relayed so much of it to Mr.G, that he now wants to watch it too, having been ambivalent in the first place.

                        I love (some) sports.
I am useless at (most) sports.
I admire the hard work and dedication that athletes put into their chosen sport.
I watch very little sport, as I have things I'd rather be doing than sitting in front of a TV, most of the time.

I wish I could press the like button more than once on your post G4 - as the Aldi parrot would have done!
