Why? Can't remember the last time I went to the cinema and rarely watch TV. I've read Wuthering heights - does that count? Don't know anything about Terms of endearment.

Our daughter's challenged OH to list his top ten films ... 100 plus films later and the list continued to grow Let's just say we all love watching films. We gave up the TV license a year ago ... we have a DVD budget and are never short of a film to watch

Though during the summer months we are in the garden until late and so have to watch a film over two nights

I love Abyss - and do you know we haven't got that one!

If your still watching the films on a tv then they might still get you! Be careful......

What about the Bourne trilogy? Better than bond?

          Loving my allotment!

            Neither can I!

Withnail and I [Lost count of the times I've seen this, total genius]
            Dead Poet's Society
Spinal Tap [Don't even look at it]
The Big Lebowski [first saw this at an Arthouse cinema and the whole audience were guffawing in unison the whole way through - wonderful experience]
            Fargo
            Reservoir Dogs
Fight Club [totally obsessed with this when I studied Film/Media - so many essays so little time]
Monty Python and the Holy Grail [have seen this countless times, a friend's dad had it on pirate in the 80s and we used to watch it almost every day for years.]
Delicatessen [we used to have Delicatessen parties where we would all watch the film eating pasta. No idea why].

Never seen Love Actually or Titanic. I like it a bit gritty!

Can't believe I forgot Withnail - thanks Zazen. I think Delicatessan also makes my list.

Also Big Night and Babette's Feast. Forgot those too.

Titanic is on right now on Film Four if anyone needs to see it AGAIN!
                Personal favourites include:
Now Voyager - Betty Davis, "Oh Jerry, we have the moon, lets not ask for the stars...."
Love Actually - "It's a lot of legs, David..."
Practically all the Disney animations - Why do I cry more readily at animated films than live action???
Most of Harrison Ford's films - but for quite a different reason. Saw him in "Temple of Doom" last night and realised just how old he's got - have you SEEN him recently? Oh Harrison, Harrison, What happened?????!!!
When the Devil gives you Cowpats - make Satanic Compost!

                    Monty Python - Fab!

Not sure if I've seen Love Actually poor memory here!

The Thing - super scary (both versions)
Quatermas and the Pit? Also scary

                    The Green Mile
                    Shawshank Redemption

                    Bourne
                    Bond
Nothing wrong with a bit of escapism. There are dozens of others, but I can't remember them. I like thrillers and whodunits.

Also, I'm sure we've done this before, last year? Year before? Like I said, memory's shot!

I can remember the last time I went - 1978 to see The Medusa Touch starring Richard Burton. Even then cinemas were turning into fast food eat-in-take-aways. I hate to be seated among strangers trying to shovel as much junk food into their mouths as they can before the film ends, so I stopped going.

I find that I read a book, then maybe there's a film of it that comes on TV, and because I've visualised it so well when I read it I watch the film thinking all the time, "this is different from when I last saw it" when in reality I've never seen the film before.
                      Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
                      Endless wonder.

Maybe it's because I lived somewhere without a cinema until I was 18 but never really got into films in a big way. Think it's about 5 years since I last saw one out (can't remember what), always seems expensive and a warm and dark room makes me want to fall asleep . Been reading through the films that people have listed, all the slushy stuff doesn't do it for me but some of the more weighty ones I know through the book rather than the film and as somebody has already said, when you've read the book, the actors never look right as you already have an image in your mind of what they should look like.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                                From the TV Licensing site:

"The law states that you need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes, on any device, as they're being shown on TV. This includes TVs, computers, mobile phones, games consoles, digital boxes and Blu-ray/DVD/VHS recorders.

You don't need a licence if you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you use your TV only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch ‘catch up’ services like BBC iPlayer or 4oD.
                                "

We don't have TV aerial or satellite dish - TV is set up simply for our DVDs We watch Beechgrove Garden and Gardeners World on the iplayer at the weekend. In the summer we are too busy in the garden to have time to watch TV and in the winter we do DIY work on the inside of the house. We don't miss the TV channels at all I do have an awful Amazon 'DVD habit' which competes with my 'Garden purchases habit'.

Yes - we love the Bourne Trilogy. Watched them three nights in a row recently.
