We are made of sterner stuff here mrswadders, we spend most of the time knee deep in it with our cagooles on, it'll be your average summer holiday to us.
The Royal Welsh Show, the UK’s biggest agricultural event, will go ahead as usual and there is no truth in rumours that it will be cancelled because of the wet weather, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society said today.
“Everything is in place for a bumper event and we are looking forward to four full days of activity at Llanelwedd,” said RWAS Chief Executive, David Walters. The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society - Royal Welsh Show will go on
“It is quite incredible how talk of cancellation spreads but I want to assure everyone that calling off the show is not on the agenda,” he said.
Well I went yesterday and it was very warm and a lot of fun.
I watched the 6 nations sheep sheering championship, the standing welsh axeman champs, the blacksmiths shoe a horse comp, the Ukrainian cossacks, they were fab, the welsh YFC tug of war and seven a side rugby finals, Welsh cob finals, saw Titan the robot, I learnt how to fly fish and build a dry stone wall, my daughter had a golf lesson, and the missus chilled with a few ice creams.
I also learn't that it is possible for your feet to literally drop off.
So what did you do after lunch Mikey?
Sounds like a great day and you had incredibly hot weather - no muddy car parks this year! Maybe I'll get there next year
So it WAS you at the flyfishing Mikey! (Only joking). Did you see the coracle racing?
Three of us went up to the show yesterday really early - it was boiling hot and everyone was trying to walk in the shade! It was 27 degrees and they said over 70k people were there - I can very well believe it. Went to see the sheep shearing, the carriage driving and watched the very frisky Welsh Cobs - they were superb. Did most of the other things Mikey spoke about except the flyfishing.
We took our own sandwiches as food at these events is always expensive and managed to find a spot high up on a grassy bank in the shade to eat lunch and still watch events in the main arena.
It was a brilliant day out and I don't think I cooled off until after 10pm last night!
If you were on the high bank watching the main arena at lunchtime, you might have seen me. I was the one fast asleep when Brecknock were doing the harvesting through the ages, I think I was out for at least 30 minutes, waiting for the cossacks!!
We also took sandwiches but I ate them at 11am under the trees by the coracle lake, I also took frozen bottles of squash which gently thawed as the day went on.
If I'd known you were going lottie, I'd have given you a wave.
I couldn't believe the number of people there - I took lots of photos so you might even be on one of them Mikey We knew some friends were going up by coach but not surprisingly we never saw them all day.
I love those coracles, they are so hard to manoevre and they look so flimsy as well. We were well lucky with the weather though because a couple of weeks earlier and it would have been a mud bath. Did you notice that the ground in the car parks still felt squidgy underfoot in places?
I would have waved to you too had I known you were going - we made a last minute decision to go as the weather was still so good.
It was a late change of plans for us aswell Ladylottie, we had intended going on Thursday, until I looked at the programme and decided that Wednesday was the much better day. Well if you spot someone stretched out snoring in one of your photos, load it on and I'll let you know if it was me.
