  • Stinky question

My garden reeks of dog poo and pee. I dont have any grass its all chipped (apart from the borders).
Its only this year I have noticed it. Despite all the rain to wash it away it stinks.
Any suggestions as to what I could do to take the smell away, I have tried those lava rock thingies (I know they are to stop burn patches on the grass, but tried them anyway) but the dogs just refused to drink out their bowls and drank out of the pond instead!
Its cleared as soon as they have done it, poo not pee, so its not just left lying
    Thanks

No idea sorry, one of our dogs seem to smell a lot worse than the other one, but the smell seems to go off as soon as errr they cool down. Maybe the heat is not helping there? Frozen poo is so less smelly.

What about Jays fluid? (Yea I know thats the wrong spelling but it would let me put the correct one!)
Dont think it poisonous to dogs but maybe to cats!

        Have I been zazzed?

Wondered about ***** , or the powdery stuff to put in your bin but was unsure about the toxicity(is that a word)
I thought someone may have a miracle cure for me but no, in the end I watered the garden with some lemongrass essential oil so it is less stinky now, dont know how long it will last but heyho done now

O it didnt let me spell Jays properly

Either way, it does get rid of dog and cat wee smells. My dad used to use it on a lamppost outside his house - that you could smell when you walked past it.

It's probably not good for them mind, as it did stop the dogs weeing up the lamppost.

How about some diluted bleach, cheap and effective I would have thought.

Cheers Chris and BM, will try both in the future, the dogs did look puzzled this morning when they went out, could have been the smell of the oil or the big yellow thing in the sky that they are not used to

My dogs sometimes use the chippings for their business too and I know how difficult it is to clean up after them without grabbing a handful of chippings!. What do you have underneath the chippings - I have water permeable membrane stuff so liquids wash through. Just wondered whether you have piddle puddles somewhere

If I needed to use something I'd use dilute bleach as I hate the smell of Jays Fluid - unkempt urinals - Yuk!!

You'll probably find it's not the dog-do that smells, but the whole area of wet soil. Our dog has no access to the front garden, but that stinks poo-like. It has been so wet here, that I think it's just the dirty water and rotting underground vegetation.

I have noticed, with the high water table, that all the ants' nests are above surface. Our previously bumpy lawn is like a mine-field - nearly as bad as having moles.

One of my dogs has huge piddles and as she always does her pees and poos close to the back door it can be well pongy. I always clean up the erm, solids as soon as she has done them, but the urine can whiff something awful so I pour a kettle full of boiling water over it and find it works quite well at cleaning the area and making the piddle place less whiffy.

The least harmful thing to use is biological washing powder. It breaks down the enzymes in the wee and poop and so gets rid of the smell. I always make up a big bucket of hot water and bio washing powder and dump it on my cat run then spread it about with a yard brush.
On chippings though you could just sprinkle it on with a watering can though.
