article about seed law...make me laugh

hi everyone.
a lot of my friends in italy were talking about this new eu law about growin veg from seeds but only if the seed variety os a special seed list.... that mean that all our variety that come from our grandgrand parent, and all this seeds that people and farmer have been swapin for century can't be grow because they are not in this list... to put a variety in this list you need at least 10 yrs time and a lot of money ( i mean hundred thousand euro).. that of course is a law that not make sense, the only people that can afford to put seeds in that list are the big seeds company, in this way they will force us to buy seeds every year..

what make me laugh is that this law come from brussel that is tring to say that will bee illegal grow veg of a old tomato variety but 130 miles away from brussels in amsterdam is legal grow and smoke cannabis?
now what you think about it? i don't care what they say i will still grow some of the special variety of tomato and other veg that my italian friends send me....

I don't think it is illegal to grow the seed only to sell it ......so we just have to carry on saving our own seeds, and swapping with others that do the same.

That's how I read it too - not good news but only reinforcing the stupid laws as they stand. Don't really see what drugs have got to do with it either.

What I meant is that growing old variety will be illegal as growing the cannabis. What I read somewhere else is that the swap as well of seeds that are not in the list. If you read the new gyo magazine in page 7 says the same. If you want to use a certain variety you have to put in a list ( I think said on the defra website). In fact they said that the hsl (heritage seeds library) will still work because they will only grow old variety only for seed saving and not for other reason.
