Ruthless seed sorting!

I'm packing away my summer sowing seeds and thought it was time for some ruthless thinning out - so I'm pulling out anything with an expiry date before 2010.
Anyone like 32 packets of lettuce seed? Will 16 packets be enough to see me through next year
I'm dreading looking at the cabbages!

sounds like you going to be busy,hope your counting at least twice,just to be sure,to be sure how many you got,then again with the list your going to put up on here lol,
with regards your lettuce seeds,sprincle into pots for salad leafes,waste not ext,

LottieD, I have so many packets of salad leaves too, haven't even looked at those yet! I'll throw the old lettuce seeds in vacant patches of ground - if anything comes up it'll feed my pet snails

I wouldn't chuck stuff based on date if you don't have spares, half my seeds are pre-2010 and they still come up

Don't worry Tamsin, I'll hang onto anything that I only have one of , but I sowed a load of old onion seed earlier this year and not one germinated - so, I'm trying to convince myself that its best to use fresher seed (when I have it) instead of trying to use the oldest first. Otherwise, those lettuce seeds would keep me going until the year 3000

But but - onions, carrots and p*****ps don't keep whereas most other things do.

Dont chuck it all out just because one didn't germinate.

Thanks Zaz. I knew about the unmentionable ****nips but not about onions and carrots. So I can chuck them with an easy conscience?
But really, 48 packets of lettuce seeds are enough for anyone - or are they?

Next up - 21 packets of carrots pre 2010 Don't know why I keep any really as the ground is so stony I can only grow stumpy ones or a few in pots
AND 15 packets of radish!

what we need are pics of your stash lol,seriously though,would it be something kids would like for a play shop,do they still have these in infant schools,also to learn more about different varietis ext,like where vegies start life,especialy now some schools have a growing space,just another of my idea's,

Sorry, my seeds have requested no publicity photos
I have as little as possible to do with schools so have no idea what they do but I guess there would be a risk with giving children packets of seeds to play with, in case they opened them and ate them?

Go for a junior school then VC. They won't eat anything they don't recognise

Seriously, my gardening club at school was really grateful for Kiwirach's seed stash and I have been using up some of mine too. So contact Sunshiny South Wales Junior school and tell them they can start off the new school year with lots of your seeds to try out.
