  • Landy Question

I drove a Landrover for the first time today.
Only problem was the high/low gear changer kept slipping out of gear.
    Any idea why?

Also how come landys are so small? Had to open the window to stick my arm out.
    And the clutch

          Nice one BB.

And I thought it was the loose nut behind the wheel.

The longer the wheel base the more chance of grounding. Like the air portable jobs myself, about the only thing that will stop them is a 'knife edge'.

Evrone complains about the close proxomity of the seats to the door! Personally, when I get my own Defender (next car) I will be removing the centre seat or cubby box, and relocating the seats inward. Well, I will be delegating, and overseeing the work! The rest of the Marque are not so 'basic' and far more comfortable.

They all have 'character' Steve, but are so easily modified to suit the individual, that I guess its part of their appeal. With you on the 'Lightweight' Potty - that was my first love, and my first Landy.

BB, I'm in a rush, so will resist the urge to click...

My husband loved Landys and nearly bought me one several times (though I think it was for him really). I test drove a few but there was always something wrong with them that he thought he couldn't fix (so it must have been a major issue). I like their rattly, ruggedness!

My son -in-law's car was in he garrge for repair so he asked if he could borrow my series 109 landy. He came round and drove it round the block then returned it!

"No way could I drive that thing all day" sez he!

They are a bit of an 'acquired taste' and are fine as long as you carry a full tool kit with you at all times...........at least mine is!

I would guess at series2/2a/3 or a90/110 although if he drove for more than 2 miles & still has his fillings the series could be discounted no mention of the boot floor/body mounts rusted away so not a Disco'

theres a few things it could be dependant on year of vehicle but mostly it will be lack of adjustment on the linkage, there are also a few small nylon bushes which could have worn or fallen out best to get underneath and have a play

arm out the window is a normal Def driving posistion, later ones are better but its all part of the fun of ownership..LOL

as to clutch, if it is a TD5 engined version you can change the clutch spring for the earlier version which needed less umph to push it
