What Garden show would you like to see on the Box?

Further to Bigmally's thread on The anneka rice garden show, I thought I'd find out what everyone else would like to see done as a TV garden show.

Personally I love restoration man and grand designs, and the victorian/edwardian farm. I'd like to see a restoration garden show, where they find unusual properties that have been brought back to life and create or restore their gardens.

They could be a walled garden, a mill, folly. I don't really mind the setting, but to then find ways in which the garden could be influenced by the location and the period of the property, a sort of historical garden show where, we are informed about the style and methods of gardening of that time, and bring them bang upto date with a contemporary twist.

Most walled gardens where cutting edge for their time, with ways to extend growing seasons, manipulate plants etc, I'd be quite interested in watching that.

What would you like to see?

I dislike any quickfix programme that has a limited number of days to achieve a makeover - be it gardening or timeteam. So I'd prefer to see a garden develop over a year and be done properly.
Period gardens are good, maybe a garden from each era, including wartime.
Permaculture and Forest gardening interest me and herbs. What about old varieties of veg and fruit - their background, history and development into modern day versions - and the pros and cons of stickng with the old............

Thats probably why I like GD and restoration, they condense into into an hour, but the timescale can sometimes be over a year or two. It has to show something complete in my eyes, an hour watching something that isn't finished at the end no can't do that, I find it very frustrating, unless I'm told at the start its week 1 of 2.

I like the sound of a forest garden though, know anyone who'd be interested in being on a show like that.

And show you what to do now, what to plant & when.

Sustainable low budget gardening, with eco tips and recycling. It'd be appropriate for lots of people these days. Getting the most out of limited space and money.

Thing with that is; once someone famous says 'Try this, it's cheap and do-able' it then becomes expensive and impossible because prices get hiked up. I found this out trying to buy old sinks when they were fashionable for planters.

I would like a telly version of Gardener's Question Time, sometimes it would be nice to see the strange growths on leaves that Bob Flowerdew is describing!

I would also like to watch something about serious fruit and vegetable growing, one that goes into detail on each crop - varieties, methods of propagation, pests and diseases and when and how to harvest. It would be good to cover things like no-dig methods, how to double-dig, how to solve drainage problems etc. One format that might work would be setting up an allotment from scratch, following it over the course of a year. I know - we should just televise the grapevine

Anything that shows development over time rather than a quick fix.

GD and Restoration Man are good because of that - wasn't there a Landscape Man too?

Oooh yeah, the Landscape Man was the delicious Matthew Wilson - phwaaar!, but he came over as dull as ditch water. He is actually very entertaining, and has a really dry, wicked sense of humour.

My favourite gardening show was The Big Dig, which followed 2 real allotment sites, one in London, and the other in Wales. The allomenteers told you what they were doing and why. It was great, and a crying shame that it got cancelled.

For me, a programme that could combine The Big Dig with Matthew Wilson, Will Mockett and Peter Ginn, I'd be in heaven ...oh, and Alice Roberts too

Having seen a few videos on youtube, I think TwoSheds would make an excellent presenter.
Very informative and not patronising.
