Wish they'd just get on with it - nothings happened yet

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Well, already it's made me realise how much respect and gratitude we (current 'growing' population) owe to the people alive during those times, actively working hard and farming the land! I bet we lost a good few heritage varieties due to the war and bombings etc, but without those folk we'd have lost a lot more varieties.. It's a shame some of the large seed companies have lost touch with this :/

The tunnelling thing is cool though - the next chap that acts about improving drainage on clay I'll suggest one of those

I enjoyed it - but there was something similar about wartime life not so long ago - filmed at BigPit. So the Blackout and rationing etc is all a bit samey. I thought that cooking all those bananas with bacon was a bit OTT.

Enjoyed this! My mothers family farmed during the war ( dairy though) so this was really interesting!

As a 49er who still has his buff identity card -

So where did the banana come from? Either it was the last for a very long time or was Ruth already under the influence of some spiv in the black market?

We've all seen the black and white clip of the lad encountering a banana for the first time and about to eat it skin and all.

                          I think we should be informed ! ! !

                          Cheers, Tony.

As a bulge baby (and it shows) the closest I came to bananas for years were banana flavoured milk tablets (yuk) and Palm toffee when sweets came off ration
I'v just downloaded the supporting booklet from the OU Order your free Wartime Farm booklet - OpenLearn - Open University

Mum commented on the bananas, she was about 5 when war broke out and still remembers the first banana she ever saw which was definitely after the war. She thought you had to eat the skins too.

I still can't eat bananas - and I have noticed my bro and sis don't normally go for them either - I think I was a bit too old when they came off rations!
That first programme reminded me of Grandma's kitchen and I still have some of the stuff in my shed!
