I'm looking forward to that one. The Victorian and Edwardian ones were fascinating but this one should mean more to most people as the war is closer historically.

My grandfather was killed in El Alamein in 1942. My mother was 7, she had two younger brothers of 5 and 3 and my Nan had just had a new baby, Donald, who never saw his dad and, of course, vice versa. I know a lot about the domestic history of WW2 because both of my parents experienced it, they talked about as did other older family members. The BH's grandad was a farmer through WW2, and, although it was a reserved occupation, he was in the Home Guard.

This will mean a lot to both of us, I think.

I just think they are a wonderful team. I adore Tales from the Green Valley, which was their first series together, and the Elizabethan Christmas. Just wonderful. These series make me think about self sufficiency, sourcing food and products locally, and how skills and crafts are being lost.

      ...and Peter is yummmmmiiiiieeee

Ooh thanks sweetie! I may have to record it on my little tv in the dining room (expletive) because I record Waterloo Road for the Golden Girls on the big screen on Thursdays. Wonder if it will be repeated on a Sunday? Hope so.

Tales from a Green Valley was filmed in South Wales and I went to the farm a few months after the filming as they were still doing re-enactments there. Stuart Peachey, the archaeologist showed us around and I tried on his waistcoat and hat!! Never could resist dressing up
It was there that I first came face to umm face with a Medlar
Love all their series Thanks for letting us know PB

Always good series. We thought we'd missed the first one last night so were relieved to find out it doesn't start till next week.

Now strictly speaking shouldn't the cast be revised, bringing back Stuart Peachey alongside Ruth Goodman, and a couple of young farm girl hands, instead of Peter Ginn and Alex Langlands. Just to be totally authentic.

I'm always amazed that Ruth always looks authentically old-fashioned, Alex looks a bit out of his comfort era and Peter looks the same whatever era it is.......or maybe I'm just confused

Thats cos Ruth dresses accordingly, Alex looks dreadful in a hat, and Peter spends most of his time dirty.
