  • My New Garden!!

Well eventually moved into my new house (first house) on Monday, and straight away got to the garden in the final hours of Monday.

Cut down 3 Trees so far and the big one (back right) is booked in to be felled on Wed 19th.

already with all them trees gone, the garden is looking much lighter.

So the next step will be to get rid of most of the concrete at the end of the garden (except where the shed is) and that will become my veg patch!

Then I will move the path over(straighten it) and grass the rest! with flower/veg bed to the right of the new path location.

anyone ever removed a big load of concrete, just wondering how hard its going to be?

    When we first moved in:

After chopping 3 of the trees.

Oh and the shed is amazing, massive with a work bench, cupboard, glass fronted wall cupboards, just needs power and it would be a mini house lol.

    will get more pics soon!

    Darren.

    Congratulations DG
Would the concreted area be suitable for a grreenhouse? I always have mine on solid floors. Would save you a lot of effort if you can live with the concrete.

its a 7m x 6m slab of concrete which is broken in places due to the big tree's roots, so need to remove it even if I do plan to get a green house.

Not too thick then ,get a helper,a 7lb sledge hammer,a long lever & largeish block of wood/log.Get the helper to push the lever under the slab & lever down on the block, then you can tap a fracture line in the slab at any hollow sounding point that will give you a liftable size lump.
If you cannot get a helper, lever the slab & kick a spare block/log under the edge & progress as above.
If you hit where it sounds hollow ALL the effort will go into cracking the slab, where if you hit it while still on the ground a large amount of the effort is lost into the soil it is sitting on.

Remember eye protection for yourself AND your helper

good point about eye protection. already got a sledge hammer reserved from B&Q to pick up tonight, and got a few spare bits of wood I could use as leverage.

              should be good fun!

Picked up the sledge hammer and eye protection last night, and got a hammer drill on order for delivery tomorrow. got the day off tomorrow so the fun will begin! woop woop.

I do love the feel of the sledgehammer, got a good bit of weight to it, feels so manly hahahaha. Can't wait to put it to action!

Mind your legs, I remember using a sledge to knock down a 2 foot thick stone wall in my last house, it bounced off and smacked me in the shins a few times. Its very difficult to be a Gaelic dancer when your wielding a sledge.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

The Gaelic Dancing Association always did frown upon dancers bringing hammers on stage tho...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
