strange phobias - especially when you think of your job.....

It struck me today that I have 2, when I worked in the microbiology lab we had to do testing on skin scrapings and nails(mainly toe) now I absolutely dispise feet! I used to heave when it was my turn to do these...........yuk - i could cope with all other bodily fluids but toe nails urrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh

Since being a science technician my other phobia - blown up balloons has surfaced as they are often used - they make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!!!

Has anyone else got any weird phobias that don't go too well with your job???

Hi,

I hate polystyrene. Its like nails on a chalk board for me and feels horrible! An absolute nightmare unpacking boxes when deliveries come into work!

As an aircraft engineer who later was working in a food production environment, I could not stand my work colleagues lax attitude to engineering maintenance. I shall say no more.

It's not a phobia. but I do hate snot and sniffing (that continual sniffing because they're too lazy to get up and use a tissue). In a class of 8 year olds, I'm exposed to a lot of it.

I think I prefer sniffing to the wiping of snot up sleeves though ~ those silvery trails make me retch

I can't stand sales people*. They're rude, arrogant, pushy, abusive, ram all sorts of what not up their noses in the toilets, poo and wee all over the floor(!) and toilet seats (both sexes).

I hate the way they bully people on the phone too.

*99% of them in my work place.

Thankfully, there's plans in motion which means I won't be dealing with them for ever

Uuuuugggggghhhh - I also hate inflated Balloons - Eeeeeewwwww!

My other phobias are as follows;
Fungus
Daddy long-legs
Slugs
Cobwebs

Luckily, I am facing my fears, as I can now remove the fungus, slugs and cobwebs, but only with an implement, like my trowel, for example - I can't actually bring myself to touch them. I only hate Daddy long-legs becase they fly straight into your face, and make you jump. I'm perfectly fine with Spiders, just hate their webs. Weird? Me?

I hate handling and counting cash - get all flustered and fumble fingered. Hate the smell of it on your hands afterwards too - and wondering where its been
I didn't often have to touch money, but I did occasional audits at ancient monuments, cashing up and stock checks. We'd have a day to balance the books, squashed into the custodian's ticket office under the resentful eye of the custodian and the curious gaze of castle visitors. It was a nightmare, especially when it didn't balance and it could have been because I'd miscounted!
Thanks goodness any money that I have to count now is my own - and there's not much of that!

Yes, I hate touching money. My pet HATE (well one of them) is food places, that handle your food, and touch money without washing their hands or putting on / removing gloves. It's gross. The person behind you, or if you're the one behind then has not only the other persons sarnie contents but also their money. What if a veggie comes up after somone has handled meat, or a Muslim and somone has just had pork? It's wrong on so many levels. I actually make comment, and if they don't change gloves/wash their hands properly I'll leave. I've had people behind me look and leave too

If I had a food place (a plan, one day - amongst others) I'd have a dedicated person taking money, and dedicated food prep folk. If that wasn't possible then gloves would be used, colour co-ordinated for meat/veg/special diet type ones, changed through the day and hands washed.

Yes, I'm a nurse/midwife. I'm happy enough to paddle around in blood, urine, faeces. But please keep your spit and especially! your mucous to yourself. When I did my training as a nurse I remember having to empty the silver containers that people would cough into............ewww I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about them hawking

I know a lot of nurses that say to their dentists that they cant imagine having to paddle around in someone's mouth fgs! And the dentists can't understand how we can paddle around in the other stuff!

I also can't abide Huntsman spiders. Like my friend I prefer the smaller deadlier ones to those enormous bluddy great things that will walk across your ceiling at night so you wake up and look up and there they are right above your d@mn head! I'm not that keen on snakes either altho prior to last year I used to think that at least snakes stayed outside, unlike spiders.

Telephones - I will do anything to avoid talking on the phone. I'm only really confident doing things which are purely yes/no transactions. Everything else got delegated - the great advantage of being a boss!!
Chatting? Never - thank goodness when I ring my mum (usually takes a couple of days to build up to it) she just rabbits on...

Not so much work related but I have recently developed an anger at work I did not know I had....A guy comes into the canteen every morning & eats one large carrott & one large stick of celery. I have to sit at the other end of the canteen as it drives me crazy listening to him crunching. The sad thing is I have no idea where this feeling has come from. Maybe I have not experienced it before. Strange.......
