  • Toms still hanging on............

As the title suggests, my toms are still hanging on even though we've had a couple of heavy frosts. Some of my chilli's haven't even fruited yet though so I don't think there's much chance for them.
All plants were looking a bit dejected so I fired up the wood burner to cheer them up.

Cheered me up if nowt else!

And chillis, peppers, cucumbers and the pea shoots will be starting to be harvested soon - and got onions, potato onions, elephant garlics, lettuces, chinese cabbages, spring onions etc all waiting in the wings...all in the greenhouse.

I picked everything with a bit of colour on it yesterday and left the green ones. They are destined to become chutney

I've just thrown a load of rotten & ripe tomatoes away today... Give up on them as I'm the only one who eats them. There is only so much sauce I can make!!

Chilli plants are next... The freezer is full of them and there are plenty more on the plants that need picking.

Stripped mine yesterday, all green. The healthiest are tucked up cosily in a deep drawer. I had to throw as many away which was a big disappointment. Loads of chillies in the greenhouse and luckily all healthy. Emptying the pots this week and if I can get hold of some cardboard they'll be the beginning of another bed. Even less grass to mow in the spring

Plenty of green toms in the Botrytis afflicted GH - stripped out the worst plants, stripped the leaves off most of the remaining plants and hoping that they'll ripen without rotting - under close scrutiny!
In the other GH, I have some late started Yellow Stuffers and Transparent tom plants, flowering, but no fruit. Wonder how long I can keep them growing into winter?

Mine are still going too both indoors and out....The Totem ones outside still ripening, so I will leave them be for now.....

VC....Keep an close eye on the Yellow Stuffer as they were the only ones (thankfully) of mine affected by Blossom End rot despite being in the same gh as many other varities

Not sure I'll bother with them again next year as they are (as the name suggests) more suited to stufffing than just grabbing off the plant and eating

Mine are probably about a month behind normal. Still loads of green ones on the plants but am leaving them insitu for as along as possible (fingers crossed the polytunnel will provide them a bit of protection. Still have loads of green tomato chutney from last year and really wanted them for pasatta but not sure that would be very nice out of green ones..........

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
