We have had many days of bad weather this year but I cannot imagine what it is like living through this kind of weather.......................fingers crossed for everyone affected.

It must be a nightmare knowing that it's coming your way. To have batten down the hatches and leave not knowing what will be left upon your return must be horrendous!
Although I was told today that Sandy has been downgraded to a British summer!
my daughter was in New York last week ...she got home on one of the last flights out on Sunday evening! She said it was scary even before the hurricane hit because everything was being closed down

Don't really know what to say- my heart goes out to all those affected.
It does open up a few questions as to the US's excessive pollution and contributions to Global Warming ....and the location - at sea level - of such an 'important' city.
Looks like some major changes must happen.
What is especially worying is that this very nearly happend last year ( sea surge being only 2 feet lower than this year). They could spend all those billions of dollars ( in short supply now) to get things back to 'normal'only for the same thing to happen again next year.
yes- it's very worrying for all those concerned.

It's a shame that the news is so unbalanced sometimes BM
Totally agree BB, that's what becomes of being a Superpower I suppose.

I watched the news this morning and saw for the first time the devastation created, my heart goes out to them. It does make me ask the question, why do they build so many of their homes out of wood.
I suppose it's cheaper that way- but their Insurance Companies might start to reconsider the liability of continuing to make them out of wood??
Or increase their premiums for living on a water table...........

There's a lot of it out there and its therefore a cheap building material. Fire risk aside, I'd choose wood over concrete anytime!
The coverage has been interesting and I've learnt two new words - to unwater (to drain out the water) and to dewater (to drain out the water).
And the coverage of the effects outside the US has indeed been woeful.
