  • The Moneyless Manifesto

Mark Boyle has been living in England for a few years, completely without money. He has just published a book about his experiences and, true to his principles, it is available to download freely. I haven't read it yet but I do know about some of his exploits through Freeconomy. Thought some of you may be interested! The Moneyless Manifesto | Mark Boyle

It's £6.21 to download to my Kindle.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I was just pointing out the irony that you could BUY a book about living without money. Hate reading on my computer, the backlit bit gives me a headache and the format just isn't right.

Oh I can't read anything that advocates the widescale pillaging of our edible food.
"foraging" would feed less than 1% of us.

There's a report somewhere about how wilds mushrooms are overpicked and this is leading to declines.

            I'll read it online.

I hope there are elements I can take from it to use in my life, although I suspect that most of us could not live a 'nomal' moneyless life.

Exactly, PP! I'm beyond skip-diving but there is always barter for ones' food and services. That's within most folk's capability. I also like my creature comforts too much to go without them. I'm sure there will be things in the book that we do anyway - like growing food I shall read it.

I thought the same when I browsed a magazine in WHS called Simple Things at £8.95 pm It was about making your money go further - do we have a laughing with hysteria emoticon?

I do that. I go to one place (I like to call it "work"), where I barter my time and energy and skill for pieces of printed paper, which I can then take to another place (which I shall call "the shops"), where I can exchange them for all sorts of different commodities.

I "bartered" about 40 years of my life for the relentless drip, drip of pieces of paper into the big sock under the bed I hear there's only one way to stop the drip and I don't intend to do that for a long time yet!

The only problem is that when you eventually haul out the big sock, you find that a mouse called Inflation has nibbled a dirty great hole in the toe and made a nest of your paper.

You can read it online for free but not download it so the Kindle's USB is of no help

And of course the other side of the moneyless life is taxes. No money = no taxes = no services.
Much as we dislike paying them I guess "here, have a pot of jam" may not cut it with the paramedics should you need them.

Do you think it's all about him sleeping on peoples settees so no rent/bills etc? S'pose it's easier to do without a family, but can't imagine many people ready to offer sleeping space for us four and a cat and a dog
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...
