And the results are:- They all work!
I quartered the mirror, leaving a band across the middle untouched. At the top - potato and shaving foam, & on the bottom toothpaste and washing-up liquid (Brands are available on request!).
The easiest to apply was the potato, but it was so easy that I didn't polish it off. This morning, it was the least effective as it had some smeary condensation but less than the untreated area. Maybe polished it would have been better?
The other 3 all needed a lot of polishing - toothpaste was the worst and I don't think I'd use that on windows as it may be abrasive.
So shaving foam and washing up were about the best - not much between them for application and they were still clear this morning after showering.

Cheers VC, at least we are on the right track...........I knew there was a reason for not throwing that shaving foam away....

there used to be a product for motorcycle helmets to stop misting up when hot breath on cold visor, it was a wax stick you rubbed on and buffed off but that would be a mare for a windscreen so in my search for it found this
