Now being called "dear" is the one that gets me. If I can be bothered I point to my head and ask is they can see my antlers Most of the time though I'm just grateful that they don't call me a stupid old fool

They do have to be people I know, and am fond of. Even if it's someone on here.

There are older men, here in Somerset, who will refer to you as 'my dear' and it sounds terribly patronising. I'm sure there are a few who mean to sound like that, but most don't. My stepgrandfather's brother was such a person - he really believed women knew nothing. I went right off him the day he actually said 'Don't you worry yer pretty lil head over such things, my dear' Yuck!

Oh God... I cannot believe I've actually done that. I know what today is - my SinL's birthday - so why I thought I had well over a week until December 2nd is beyond me. I wanted to do so many things, but I'll have to prioritise now.....and everything else will have to be a next Christmas project. I won't get the black silk stockings done - and I promised Tubs too....

I was looking at stuff on ebay today, wondering why, if I bought something today, it wasn't going to be delivered until the end of next week......when it's really the end of this week because I'm a week out.

I call people 'darling' at work....usually cos I cant remember their name and 'dear' seems abit old lady-ish!

Personally, I don't like 'Ducks' or 'Luvvy' and I especially hate being called 'Dear' especially in that patronising tone. Although there are people that can say it with no hackles being raised. I think it depends on the person saying it.

I do, however, feel sorry for Men, as it doesn't matter what term they use, or how it is meant, it will always upset someone!

When I was (a lot) younger in East London all men were 'John'whether that was their name or not nowadays some men get called 'mate' - cos I can't remember their names

If it's an older man, I'll say sir. It depends on the circumstances. Chaps in their seventies and eighties love that deference. Got a lot of sales from gents, at the craft fairs, that way. Big smile and some nice manners. A little bit of harmless flirting can go a long way.

I'm at Corby this Sunday. In Fineshade Woods. If anyone's up that way please come in and say hi. I've never been there before so I have no idea what it's like. It's a Forestry Commission Festive Fayre.
