      It will estimate how many words you know by answering a few questions. Mine was 50,061. Luckily I didn't have to list them

                      What, exactly, does Christingle mean? I know what it is, an orange with a candle stuck in it, but what does the word mean?

                        A Christingle is a symbolic object, related to the pomander, used in the advent services of many Christian denominations. A Christingle consists of:
                        an orange representing the world;
                        a red ribbon around it representing the blood of Christ;
                        dolly mixtures, dried fruits or sweets skewered on cocktail sticks pushed into the orange, representing the fruits of the earth and the four seasons; and
                        a lit candle pushed into the centre of the orange, representing Jesus Christ as the light of the world.
                        The base of the candle is commonly wrapped in tinfoil. Many regard this as functional, though others ascribe it with a specific meaning.

                              But what does the word MEAN? What is its etymology? Christ - ingle...?

                              Edit: Ah, wait, a light bulb moment.... Christ + (ingle = fire), therefore Christ-fire, therefore Christmas candle. Simples.

                                Thanks MH and AP re Christingle - I see it wasn't introduced into the Anglican Church until 1968. As a lapsed Non-Conformist I had no idea what it was - still can't imagine it really But that's one more new thing I've learnt today
