The only thing I've heard about them is bad, I'm afraid. Gearbox troubles. But that may be a different year/model. Also, I have only known one person with one, and, you guessed it, her gearbox went bang.

Having said that, there are 'monday morning/friday afternoon' cars in any make...

I'm sure someone will be along soon that has one and loves it but..
I dont have one, I tend to stick to fords - they will break, but you can get parts anywhere and anyone can fix them, i rememeber one of the guys at work had a french car, it may have been a pugeot tho, and he phoned a main dealer to get a price for a light, gave them the reg no. but that wasnt enough to identify it, there were three options, a silly reason i know but thats enough for me!

The car I had before my present one was a Toyota Yaris. They seem to have a good reputation as easy to maintain and I was happy with it. It was a 2005 model though.

OOooh! I'd go for a classic 1980's VW Golf any day. And I don't even drive.....! We passed a Golf GTi on the way up to Ma's. It was just fab....still going like sh*T off a shovel!

(Actually, what nerd timed that? Just how fast does sh*t go off a shovel?)

Now THAT depends on the size of the shovel, how fit the shoveler is,the weight of the goods, and how fast the shoveler throwes the shovel, but make sure your well out of range, now that would have been good in VC's none alimpics a few months ago, hehehehe

Incidentally, I've remembered, I have a friend who had two Cl!os - he loved them. But he had them new, so were under warranty, and I don't remember anything going wrong with them.

Personally, If I had to have a small car, I would have a G0lf, but I've heard they have issues, too. I don't think there are many cars that don't, to be honest. I have friends with all sorts of cars, some have problems, some don't. You pays your money, you takes your choice!

And, sadly, I doubt that you'll find any 10 year old car without some sort of problem.

Well, I bought a Clio III last December ( little Archie) and I love him. Bright red and happy-looking. I love it as it's a decent size - we can fit love nest mark II and all the camping gear in and are very comfortable. Mr P had an ancient one that died aged about 18 last year. There must be Renault garages all over the place chez vous. Whatever you choose, have fun.

I understand about older cars, but saw several reviews about the clio, the hand brake jumps about, plus some wiring issues,so dissapointed,as i liked the clio feel, plus a good view out the rear window,i will just bide my time, take things as they come,my only issue is,if am not drien for a few months, the rest of my confidence will sod off, what ever i end up with, will have to have sons final aproval,as he will be the one doing any work on it,he and DH hated the daewoo,as all the bits under bonnet were in tight places, ext starter motor, son said how about a fiat panda, the old ones,he has 1 doing up,they easy doings, like the land rover,i had a go in the darn thing awhile ago,for a start of,my legs are to short to reach the peddles safely, and i could not find the gears no no no,anyway, son is using it the last few months,am not bothered about buses, but,is when i want to go shopping, garden centres ext,on my own,

I had a Fiat Panda once, Lottie and I'm only a little dwt (short-a*se!). No problem reaching the pedals - you can always sit on a cushion or put one at your back if the seat doesn't have enough adjustment.

We (OH) have a Twingo (the Clio's little brother) Whilst we are very happy with it - it is comfortable, roomier than you'd think and generally a good all round small car, it is hideously under powered. Part of that is the choice we made when buying it but I just wanted to throw that in. Make sure that the engine is meaty enough to give you a bit of acceleration when you need it. We haven't had any mechanical problems with our Twingo * touches wood! but we bought it from new and it is only 4 years old. For me personally, my money would be on the Golf but I guess it will probably cost a bit more. Just my tenpennerth

VC,the panda he talking about is one of the old tin box 4 wheeel drive one's,am afraid i need a little more comfort, and reaching the peddles,i meant DH landrover,
Funny we talked golf,a red one pulled up on our front, went to investigate,it has a flat tyre,so i had a chat, like you would,it's a really old one,and not bad condition, they like it,they bin there for a while now,if DH was here,he would have helped them, oooh, sun trying to shine,
