They are woodworking tools, but how and when would you use them, does anyone know?

They certainly look like lathe tools to me too. They look quite long and thin to me, mine are shorter and fatter but they came with the lathe which was cheap so I think yours are probably much better quality.A garden is a lovesome thing, God wot! (Thomas Edward Brown)

Tools for Self Reliance? They have a collecting place in Carmarthen too - brilliant group! They sell the tools that are not needed in Africa and you can find really good quality gardening tools there.
Just had a look at their website and there is a list of tools that they send, with pictures and whether they're rare or not. I'm sure I have some of those tools. One warm day I'll have a rummage.

AP is spot on yet again. I have a mate who's hobby is wood turning and he has a set.
This is one of his rather nice pens.

Nice comment Potty. It's just a life experience thing really. When I was in secondary school, our technical teacher was very keen teach us a broad spectrumof skills so I got lucky. So Mr Thorpe, if you are still alive and I very much doubt that, thank you.

AP I to was lucky in that respect, in fact very lucky. I have only just found out from a paper published on the net this month.
It was written in 1955 by a guy call W.P.Hadrill and describes his vision for the secondary modern boys school after the age of leaving went from 14 to 15. Less stress on the academic and more on craft based skills. He was appointed as headmaster to Ellis Secondary school and there put his thoughts into practice. With large wood and metal workshops, tech drawing and design facilities, maths and science based around the crafts and so forth.
Hadrill was my first headmaster and had just got everthing in place when I arrived in 1957/58. I never knew how much I owed the man until I read his paper.
Thanks Walter.
