Jules, you have just discovered some of the lesser known Laws connected with Fairy Lights that are proven up and down the land at this time of year:-
1. Lights work perfectly off the tree but when placed in their final position one bulb will fail.
2. Twiddlling every bulb will eventually find the dud
3. The replacement bulbs that you have are the wrong sort
4. the shops no longer stock the bulb you need.
5. a suitable replacement bulb will be in every shop after Boxing Day.
You just have to love Chr***mas
Rule 6 - nearly forgot - some Smart Ape will come along and tell you how it should have been done
