I heard yesterday on the radio that someone had been creating a giant brussell sprout, where 8 would feed a family of 4. It was on radio 2, but I can't find any reference to it online does anyone know what they are called.?

They were a variant of a sprout, but a much bigger head.
Personally I love sprouts, you can never have enough sprouts......well that would all depend on if you are happy not to have any friends.I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Both kids here love and eat all their sprouts. Always have done since being toddlers. I think it's a myth perpetuated by sprout hating adults.

Cheers Bren, I did try this earlier but was 20 minutes in before I realised it was tuesdays episode, D'oh!!!
I remember being asked by an ex girlfriends mother once 'How many sprouts can you eat 3 or 4?', I didn't exactly hear her and replied, 'about 20 I think!', we never really got on.
My MIL however is fab, she keeps piling it up until they start to fall off, just how I does like it.
For guests who call on me that are not that keen on sprouts I cook them to this recipe. Sprouts crossed on the top, gently simmered in a large pan of water, with 2 vegetable stock cubes. Fry off some streaky bacon and a leek, again slowly for the same amount of time as you cook the sprouts, drain sprouts and add to the bacon, season with plenty of black pepper and a good knob of butter. Serve. Quite yummy, but them I love sprouts so who am I to judge.I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Remind me never to nibble your sprouts, Mikey The key thing with sprouts is not to overcook them. My Mum's sprouts were like green balls of water - squirting when you bit them. Enough to put you off for life.
I cook mine with baby onions, chestnuts and cranberries at this time of year - with a dash of redwine and some thyme. Or, cut them in half and stir-fry them with other veg until they are just soft enough but still have some bite.
My dogs love them too
