  • I had to chuckle....

We went out for supper to a friend's house last night- and one of the couples there was telling us that their neighbour had kindly given them their Xmas turkey ( as a way of 'thank-you' for all the help they'd given him over the past year).

They have a standard sized oven...there are 2 of them for Xmas Dinner...and the turkey weighs 22 kg .

It's not even going to fit in their oven!!!!

    te he!!!

I remember when I was about 12, my Dad and I helped a local farmer pluck his turkeys and chickens. As a "reward" we were given a HUGE turkey. We managed to cram it into the oven by removing the shelves and wedging the oven door shut with a chair.

Lucky devil if you got one given to you - freeze half for another day

I could never understand why some people actually buy a huge bird, when they're only the average size family. A lot of them eat it one day, have some left-overs the next - then throw the rest away.

Makes no sense at all to me

48¼lb turkey. Oh my gosh. That is a HOOGE bird.

Freeze it, spatchcock it over the biggest summer barbecue you can find. Or, get an oil drum and do the Southern thang and deep fat fry it! I've heard that deep fried turkey is the best way. I've also heard about the properties destroyed by out of control yard fires........

Just picked up our rather modest 6kg turkey. I can't imagine one 3.5 times that. 22lb I can imagine but 22kg is enormous.

Barbeque it - My Dad has one of those big 'kettle' barbies with a domed lid. One Easter he cooked a whole BIG turkey in about two and a half hours - it was deeeeeeelish!
