So sorry to hear about your loss. I had to have my New Forest pony put to sleep a couple of weeks ago at the age of 29 after he suffered a stroke. It was an awful awful experience. I hope to take his ashes down to the New Forest later in the year to be scattered.

Mark, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of you pony.

Gemini went just the way I always hoped he would after so many years together. We did everything from pony club games through working hunter, showjumping and show hunter to side saddle and day events. I am lucky to have so many wonderful memories and I hope you have lovely memories of your pony too. My sister and I had to have our little ponies put to sleep years ago (just when my older son was old enough to start learning to ride) and I remember what a horrid day that was. I hope you keep some of the ashes to sprinkle round a special plant in your garden. Always said I would sprinkle some of Gemini at Badminton as I would have love to ride him there (only over some fences though) so it is appropriate he went to sleep on cross country day even though I can't afford to have him cremated.

    Thanks for your kind remarks,
    Shirley

        Hi Shirl

What a wonderful idea to keep some of his ashes to scatter round a plant in the garden. We have a wonderful silver birch where both one of our cats and the ashes of our beloved dog Jake are burried. For some reason it never occured to me to scatter some of Brackens ashes there. This is something I'll certainly do.

Yes, I have wonderful memories of him, he was a real gentleman apart from the time when I bent down near his hay net and he grabbed me by the lip and dragged me across the stable! He loved his grub

I hope your memories of Gemini can provide you with the comfort and solace you require. It sounds like you gave him a wonderful life!

          Hi Shirl
So sorry to hear about Gemini. I too was there when my horse, a Welsh cob called Cysgod, came into this world. I don't want to think of losing him, but I know one day it will happen. He loves his apples and I thought (reading your post) an apple tree might be more permanent, although I don't know of a Gemini apple. I know you must have given him a wonderful life, just remember the good times.<<<<<<horse hugs>>>>>>>>>>
I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

Oh Shirl, I'm so sorry you lost your horse today. I do know what it's like to loose a much loved animal and the grief involved. Maybe you don't have to find a plant with Gemini in the name. For commemeration I just plant what I want and name it for the occasion. Just a thought.
My thoughts are with you tonight.

Thanks for the idea Dobby. I gave a horse chestnut tree to a friend last year as they lost two horses within a couple of months. They had space to grow one, I don't think our neighbours would be too happy if we planted a conker tree in the garden though! I have some beech seedlings and might just try bonsai on one to keep it small enough as a memorial.

I have a wild 'dog' rose in the garden if you would like some hips later in the year to plant in memory of Lady let me know.

Srry to here about your loss STG I know what it's like whaen we lost Meg our 16yr old Cocker but I suspect you won't really want anything to remind you of him as you'll have all the memories.

As to get the sex wrong, I did that with Jaxom But luckily he wasn't offended

Hi shirl, sorry to hear about your loss but it's good to hear you are remembering the fun you had and with nearly 31 years of good memories to choose from I'm sure that will keep you going.

I can't add to the suggestions above, but I know it can be hard I'd like to plant something in memory of our neighbour we lost recently and although she liked roses and there is one with her name on it doesn't feel right. Go with what you feel is the right thing in your circumstances.

                          Big hug

sorry to hear about Gemini, shirley. The story of how you got him really touched me and can't imagine how you must be feeling right now.

Am at a loss as to what you could plant in his memory but would need to be something very special if feel.

Sorry to hear about Gemini, if the rose that geo posted is called gemini, I think that would be a beautiful reminder.

What about twinflower? I don't know if they grow in the wild around you but it would look fantastic in a drift, if you could find a seed supplier.
