mr janeyo has been offered a job there, would mean a big move for all of us. I've been to many places but never the states. I'm sure I could cope with the weather but maybe not their never ending enthusiasm.... (?!)

We've lived in the States, and I grew up on Allied Forces bases on the continent. Seriously, you should go for it. I'd bite your hand off for the chance!

Depends on if you really want to live somewhere else and how long it would be for. Would it be an ongoing thing or for a fixed contract? Would you be working and, if not, would your OH be working excessive hours in such a way that you'd never see him. Do most of your friends and family (those that you're close to) live close by at the moment and therefore you're used to seeing them when you want? If so, do you think that they'd be keen to visit (none of my friends ever go anywhere exotic!)? Depends a bit on how much you'd want to go, what the package is like (will his company sort it etc) and the same for him too. Personally I'd never chose to live somewhere else on a never ending basis as I like it here too much but we did once almost go to somewhere in Asia for a couple of years (fell through in the end so didn't go) but think we're too settled now and could never leave my cats and lottie I often find pro and cons lists tell the truth at times like this and if you do what is in your heart then I've never found I've regretted any decisions I've made.

California is huge so the weather depends on location. I hate LA but love San Francisco. Chalk and cheese. We met some lovely people.

Yep ^^,my first thought was .. where in California ? .. LA home of the six lane freeway (quite often an M25 type car park) a total contrast to Palm Springs which is not that far away.
Is private medical insurance included in the package,do you also get a work permit in the package,will you be in rented accommodation or buying,do you know the zip code (if so ..... California Home Insurance - Cheap Rates for Homeowners)

My BFF's daughter has worked in California (teaching) for 5 years. She's in her thirties with no children and absolutely loved it, although she found it expensive. The school she was teaching at closed very suddenly (only 1 month notice) and she is now in Taiwan.

As we are all only too aware the Americans are a litigious society,will the work your hubby is to be employed doing be covered by a company liability or will he need to get his own cover,even if covered under company insurance it may also be an idea to check if he can get supplementary cover to boost/fill in any gaps.

been to san diego CA and have lived in Texas and NYC very nice but I am a lover of heat ! I like americans - they are always pleasant and nothing is too much trouble. The "you're welcome" and "have a nice day" thing gets a bit of getting used to but I I say it to people here and it always gets a reaction.

I'd already be packing if it was me ...... I keep hoping someone will offer me a job in Florida !
