I know how you feel, though I'm new to my new job - but myself and a couple of other folk stayed up for all nighters, early starts and late finishes, we delivered, saving the company 3m (and a lot of redundancies)- no one even blinked, let alone a sniffter of a thanks.

I always think, unless you work for yourself, you'll never truly be appreciated - someone always makes something off your back!

    Congrats on your 30 years

they got rid of the long service awards in our place as they cost "too much" - in fact they only cost 300 quid a person and only when you've done 21 years......I argued that the benefit far outweighed the cost , I mean you do well in our place to get that many years in with the amount of redundancy programmes they have. Pathetic!

Anyway I digress - well done BM and boo hiss to whoever you work for!

That's why the public sector don't receive long service awards (or only modest ones). Imagine what the press would make of every public sector worker having a 300 gift after 21 years service - paid for by the taxpayer. However, a letter of thanks at regular intervals costs very little and would be much appreciated - well, I would have

I think loyalty should be rewarded...but there seems to be a distinct lack of it in evidence (anyone who's looked at my rants about work should be able to guess what I'm referring to!). Congratulations on your long service though.

I work for a world wide logistic company and i had a 10 and last year a 15 year service award. This was a thank you letter and my choice of gift. So i suppose it all depends on who you work for.

BM you me and Flo all work for the same firm, just different branches. I too clocked up the 30 years for the branch this year (33 for the firm) and not a peep here either. At least at our branch there still is a retirement gift (if you stay for long enough).

So, I shall raise a glass to you, Flo and all our colleagues tonight, toasting long, dedicated service from all of us.

Sorry to hear that BM, although I'm not surprised these days!

Congrats on having the staying power to last that long!

it's disappointing that things like this aren't recognised .....
maybe you should email everyone and invite them to a party to celebrate "30 years of putting up with this sh1t"

                        Howld on you lot.............

Don't tar EVERY firm with the same brush. About six year ago I had 20 years service and got 200 worth of vouchers to spend and a chance to shake hands with the head bopper if I wanted to (politely refused)
I doubt whether I'l get anything if I get to 30 years service (gold plated zimmer frame, possibly?) but I don't really want or expect anything.
It used to be a gold watch but my poor auld Dad got a portable radio from British Rail with a stick on brass plaque. I've still got it, but it probably won't work cos it's not digital!

Sorry for your predicament Bigmall (heres me thinking you woz just a young whippersnapper!) but I've now come to realise that I'm just a number like everyone else................and i'm content with that!

                        Hope 2013 brings you happiness.

Advertising, that's what you need to do. Print off your medal, frame it and put it on your desk where everyone will see it and be curious enough to have a close look. Tell them its all the recognition you have for devoting a huge chunk of your life to the job! Go on, you know you want to
