Having fire websites, but not knowing when they are going to be updated. Yesterdays fire update at 3.30pm was a 'watch and be ready' so by the time we got home, put all our stuff together, found containers, lead ropes, headstalls, and put a couple of things like professional certs together...6.30pm and no update from the last one. Eventually thru word of mouth on various fb sites decided that it was going to be good, combined with the wind blowing towards the fire (for us) went to a neighbours. Still no update at 9pm. At about 11 pm there was an update marked 6pm. Fire had gone from 20ha to 200 ha. Lovely. And that was maybe by 6pm. So what was it by 11.30pm? No idea. This morning there's a 6am update saying 285ha (which is good really) and its 'being controlled'which is an improvement on óut of control'
The thing is.....we need to know! They are supposed to have a phone warning system...normally they txt/phone on your mobile. Of course, we live in a mobile blackspot area so hopefully they'd call on the landline....if you were sitting next to it, and not on it trying to find out from neighbours what was going on.
I totally know that the firefighters are busy, and there are people who are trying to keep track of all the fires, and the units (voluntary out here) but we still need to know! It's very stressful not knowing.
We're all good atm. But when the wind picks up this afternoon, depending which way its going, it will be on again.
