That ^^^^ was the best laugh I've had for ages - to think we took it seriously as kids!!
My week 19 Challenge was to go to an Unusual Plants Fair in the rain (that was an additional challenge )
I bought an Allium Unifolium to add to my collection of weird and wonderful Alliums, a couple of Cardoons (that I've tried to grow from seed several times but they've been slugged out) and 10 herb plants whose names I can't remember......a Myrtle, Mace, couple of mints, hyssop and some other ones
Met a plant seller there that I met down in West Wales last weekend - when he offered to bring the mulberry tree that I'd bought from another seller, up to Cardiff, in case I damaged it in my car. Does that make sense? Anyway, it was a very kind offer but I spurned it and shoved the mulberry in the back of the car
I didn't see the programme about the ball - may have to Iplayer it
Re Treasure Island, I'm well known for my spontaneous Long John Silver impersonations but I found out the other day that Miss Purity doesn't exist in the book - So I may have to stop saying " 'ow be ye, Miss Poority, ahaaah!""
I bet you've got September 19 ringed in your diary?
This week's task is to organise and (possibly) dare I say it, cull some of my pepper and chilli plants..
Do I really need over 40 ?
They are scattered far and wide- on windowsills in various rooms in the house, in the greenhouses and even some in the garage..
So I want to see what I have left and what (in this slow year) has the best chance of producing...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
Week 19 was spread 11 tonnes of gravel over the parking space/turning circle at the top of the drive by the house plus filled in all the huge ruts left by the delivery lorry who lost traction on the track up to the house. 50m, 17% gradient, only made form compacted stone. Big mess. But we can now turn the car. Relocated a bit of wild flower meadow from beside the drive, to the still bare bank at the side of the house.
Week 20 - back to the pond. Mr PP takes most of the credit, but it is now lined and filling with water (due to rain for the next ten days, oh joy. That will make a change). Choosing plants for inside and outside the water, this week.
VC - With everything needing protection on our site, my challenge for week 20 is to build a pen/cage for brassicas. I hope to have this finished by tomorrow lunchtime but................

this weeks challenge for me is to paint the porch and conservatory after the builders left a few marks on the walls from coming in and out during the bad weather.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
Pleased to say that cage was completed at 1115 today and is now protecting Cabbage, Broccoli and Brussels Sprouts - I now need to build another one for my daughter's plot Don't think it can wait till next week - time for beer

Mace? You get that from the nutmeg tree, surely? And that's native to Indonesia, which I last heard was slightly warmer than South Wales. Where ya gonna grow it VC?

Week 20 challenge completed - pic to follow
My challenge this week too, Shen. It's only 3' x 4' but my brassicas are now micromesh protected and I have a velcro and zip opening for easy access.

This is English Mace, MH, a native of England where it is slightly drier than in South Wales
