52 Week Challenge - week by week through 2013

I'd forgotten today was Challenge Sunday Thanks Hazel!!
Yesterday I spent learning about Herbal Myth, Magic and Medicine, led by 2 gentlemen, one with an amazing spiky moustache!
In the morning we walked in the nature reserve and the herb garden, identifying plants and being told about their uses. If I'm honest, there were only a couple of plants that I didn't know but it was interesting nonetheless.
After lunch we were given free rein to blend our own incense from about 50 different substances, many with funny names - although I recognised Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh ! This bit was all new to me and quite fascinating. Eventually I realised that I was choosing the ingredients as if I was going to cook with them, not sniff them. So it was In with the herbs and Out with Benzoin (that smelt like a petrol forecourt).
Met lots of lovely, funny and caring folk - including a lady who remembered meeting me on Flat Holm island where I had introduced her to slow worm holding
As usual, I found myself jumping up and down with excitement which always leads to the same questions - what are you on and where can I get some? Don't think I made a complete idiot of myself though - must be the first time
It was a really good day and I'm glad I went

Week 24 June 10th - 16th

Last week I did a little bit of in-car cleaning,went from this ............

And this time I didn't end up killing the injector pump

This week I shall attempt to make a traditional bird scarer,to keep them pesky pigeons off my peas

VC - almost forgot - here is my brassica cage now covered on all sides and across top with debris netting - the netting on the top can be folded back for ease of access.

The combination of the wire and debris netting should keep out all but the most determined of vermin/pests.

For week 24 I intend to finish off all my summer bedding and basket/tub planting and I am well ahead unlike the last 3 weeks.

Going to do a " Dark into light" run next Sat for this week's challenge.. Run commences at 4am and coincides with the rising of the sun... should be fun... Takes place at a very historical Irish site...

Oooops, forgot to post yesterday. No losses in the first week, mainly down to CAAAAAAAAKE being on offer at the open garden... Will do better.

My this weeks challenge.
Cut down the cotoneaster hedge that has been growing against my wall in the back garden.I think it must be about 30 years old, but it has grown out over the flower border so i'm fighting back.

Week 24
Decided summer must be here (35 degrees today, phew) so cleaned up the area around the woodburner, put the unused wood back in the woodshed and reinstated the summer plant that lives on the pile-of-logs spot, took out the winter rug and vacuumed behind, under and in the sofas.
