  • Week 4 - 21st - 27th January

    Well done to you all!!.
Since this is the last full week in January, here's an extra little challenge for you. When you complete this week's challenge, make a list of each of your weekly challenges so that we can see just how much we've achieved this month. If we do this at the end of each month we can watch our lists grow through the year

    • My challenge for week 4 was to take my friend to the Burns Centre in Kilmarnock and show him how to trace his family back to the early 1800s - we managed this successfully albeit not without some difficulty, thanks to his ggfather being born on the wrong side of the blanket

[Incidentally for those who saw a previous posting re Great or Grand Aunts] I found a Grand Aunt reporting a birth in the mid 1800's - this is the first time I have found such an occurrence in more than 40 years of research]

My Challenges over the 4 weeks have been:
Week 1 - Toasting my new Allotment on site on New Years Day
Week 2 - Lime 2 beds on my Allotment
Week 3 - Fit a tap to my Allotment water butt
Week 4 - Teach my friend to research his Family History

              • Week 4 already, sheesh!!!

When we first got our plot the first thing we done was build the greenhouse, when we leveled the soil we were left with a mound of it and not having a clue what we were doing, we built a box around the mound to contain it and grew stuff in it. Well, every year since then I've wanted to take it down because it's in a bad location.

So my challenge this week was to get it started, saving the wood and each nail as we went along.

Week 1 - Canned Pineapple using the waterbath method
Week 2 - Made olive and coconut oil soap
Week 3 - Discussed plans for a cheese press..... lame, I know lol
Week 4 - Started dismantling a raised bed.
