  • Week 5 challenge - drink 3 litres of water a day. Now half fish but very fit from running to toilet all day. Check
Week 6 - keeping it simple and I'm going to eat 5 pieces of fruit every day on top of the 3 litres of water. More water intake and more trips to the toilet. Such fun.

      • If I can keep this up I might try and complete a marathon next year. I've never actually managed to sit and watch a whole one right through before, so it would be a great achievement I think.

        • If you try to complete a marathon next year Redser, I will try and sit and watch it all. We'll both have our work cut out The only sport I willingly watch is showjumping.

            • Don't worry red, I knew what you meant! On that basis, maybe you should start to worry

              • Probably more like approaching a higher state of mind
                I couldn't run a bath!
But then again, if I could just crack this drinking water and eating fruit malarky, who knows what I could achieve! The world is your lobster Rodney, as the saying goes ...

                • Well I did think you were setting the bar pretty high Redser!
So should we make a pact? If you keep away from the smokes, and drink lots of water and eat fruit.
I'll drink fruit (wine) and watch the showjumping?

Sounds fair to me. G4 will want a G & T, but she can run a bath even if she's not up for a marathon, so we should be all good!

Not such a daft idea at all, Red - at the beginning of last year I thought I'd better 'do something' as I wanted to lose a pound or two and get a bit fit (and I wasn't too keen on giving up the odd glass of red). I am NOT any sort of natural athlete (hate the gym), although I do like swimming - but am an ol' meanie and didn't fancy the £3-something every time I went, or the effort of getting up and going there.

So instead, I opened the front door and ran a bit. 100m the first day, to the post box at the end of the road; then 200m to the paper shop the next day; then 300m....

It took me until about Easter to build up to 5k at a time, at which point I had the 8.5 mile (13k) Fun Run in my sights.

And although I cannot in all honesty claim to enjoy running, it does feel good when you've done it!

                      • Well you obviously succeeded in losing the pounds! Well done. It's certainly given me something to think about. Maybe a week 7 challenge - brisk jog to the bottom of the garden and back.

                        • Week 5 for me.
This week I'm going to take everything out of the greenhouse and clean the glass. I'm going to wash all the pots and planters. I'm going to rig up permanent supports for my tomatoes and then I'm going to put everything back in a much more tidy way (hopefully)
This will be quite a job as the greenhouse is full of geraniums and fuschias which I'm overwintering.

You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Today I went to Dobbies and bought seed potatoes for the first time ever - a total of 60 consisting of Rooster, King Edward and some Pink Fir Apple.

Tomorrow I will put them into egg boxes to chit.

                            • Bit delayed reporting back but I survived my week 5 challenge of my stag weekend and all that it entailed.. Unfortunately got back to the news that my Granny had died, so a sad end to a good weekend.. She had a good innings but will be missed...

Week 6 challenge is to run 12k...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
